Didn't see this posted anywhere. Interesting considering we had a bunch of 3rd stringers and Yao, Wells, and Snyder missed huge chunks of season.

There are some good points made by Fran, but he is still the most negative sportswriter Ive ever read...

I still like him more than Lopez though...

I don't really care about Fran. The guy who wrote the book, that's the interesting part of the article. I don't really like Fran all that much. Lopez isn't the brightest either.

fran reminds me of that broadcaster from the movie "angels in the outfield." his articles are very jerkish.

Having met Fran in person, he comes off as being arrogant and his name "Blinebury" speaks for itself... "BLIND". He has about as much knowledge of the game of basketball as Bill Walton without a computer. TRANSLATION... NONE!

Wasn't fran the main columnist in the championship days? And Eddie Sefko was our beat writer?

You guys don't like Blinebury because he is doing his job and being objective.

His blogs are cynical and sarcastic, but he is just trying to get you guys to react, which apparently he does.

There really needs to be another newspaper in town, just to push the overall quality of writing higher. As it is, the chron columnists just sit on their thrones like despots with authoritarian opinions and do-as-I-say grammar. I would really like to see what some younger people could do on print. Maybe if the Houstonist got some investors, but even then, I don't want bloggers, just educated competent people that something to contribute. Ninety percent of the readers could figure out what guys like Justice, McClain, Fran, McTaggart, Ortiz would say about a particular game before they even read their articles.

Statistically speaking MAYBE last year's rockets had a better REGULAR SEASON than the teams of the 90's...so what? Teams that win it all put up more than just great numbers, they have heart and thats something that stats and moneyball can't measure. Don't get me wrong, I love Morey and all the moves he has made thus far but he even concedes that numbers are just part of the equation when assembling a winning unit.

And on a sidenote, the only metric that was cited in the article is point differentials. Anybody remember when we killed a crappy Philly team by 50 POINTS? Definetley skews the point differential picture for the season. People sure can make bold claims when they back them up with stats.

So does anyone think Blinebury read the entire book and dissected the methods used to determine that last years team was the best in franchise history? Does anyone think think that this is in any way an informed or academic argument against the author's methods or theories? Or is this just an arrogant ass flaunting his ignorance?

EXACTLY! The guy is a dumbass when it comes to basketball and he is an arrogant "know it all" type of person. Of course, when your 5 feet tall and the whole world stands taller than you, you have to feel superior in something. He needs to be punched in the face.
