Texans claim Prentice off waivers May 2, 2002 HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have claimed third-year running back Travis Prentice on waivers from the Minnesota Vikings. Prentice, 5-11, 221, played in 14 games for the Vikings last season, recording 14 carries for 13 yards and two touchdowns and one reception for ten yards. He was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he rushed for 512 yards on 173 carries with seven touchdowns. He also had 37 catches for 191 yards and one touchdown. He was traded by the Browns to the Vikings on September 2, 2001. At Miami (Ohio), Prentice became the NCAA all-time record holder for points scored (468), touchdowns rushing (73) and total touchdowns (78). He also established records for most games scoring touchdowns (35), most 1,500-yard rushing seasons (three) and consecutive carries without a fumble (862). He ran for over 100 yards in 28 games and his 5,596 yards rushing ranks fourth on the NCAA Division I-A career-record chart. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Prentice had three 200-yard games as a senior at Manual High. The Texans currently have 103 players on the roster.
