Well my gf teamed up with her friend and got this bright idea to go to New Orleans for a weekend. Its been years since Ive been there, and really I am not too excited about going. I rather save the money to spend in Vegas later this year. Here are the things on my list. Let me know if you have any suggestions. -Cafe Du Monde Breakfast (Donuts and Coffee) -Emrils for Dinner -Walk Bourbon St. -Harrahs Casino
If you are looking for good places to eat, here are some suggestions. Acme Oyster (maybe not in season) Mother's (good ole sandwiches like po boys etc) and my favorite restaurant - Jacque Imos (a bit aways from French Quarter and you would need a car/taxi to get there) If you like really good food, make a trip to Jacque Imos and you won't regret it (cajun but with a twist, try their fried chicken, it is absolutely divine). I also just enjoy hitting the French Quarter and going to all the bars that have live music (good variety on most nights). Some have a steep cover, but others that are quite good are free. I can't seem to recall the names...many of the good ones were on the outskirt of the French Quarter as I recall (i.e., not on Bourbon street).
are you kidding? His girlfriend and her friend "teamed up" for a trip to NOLA? That's a threesome just waiting to happen.
Eat at Vincent's, in the Garden District, for killer creole/Italian/seafood. For partying, check out the Rock-n-Bowl in Metarie, or the original Tiptina's in the Garden District. I have made a habit out of staying out of the French Quarter after dark. It makes my visits to New Orleans much more enjoyable.
The friend is a female, and she will be going with her fiance. We hang out from time to time and enjoy their company. The thing that has me so bummed out is, they are planning on going Labor Day weekend, and all the prices are soo jacked up!!! This is the kind of info I am looking for, thanks!
If you are a literary fan, find "Faulkner's House Books" at 624 Pirate's Alley. It has original signed manuscripts of Faulkner's and Tennesee Williams as well as many others. It's a real bookstore, but it's more like a free museum.
Royal Street for all kinds of cool shopping. There's a great walking trail along the River. You can also ride the ferry across to Algiers for free... we usually don't get off on the other side, just ride the ferry for free, that's fun. You can pick up the ferry down by the Aquarium. It's a real aquarium, not a restaurant. City Park and Audubon Park are excellent for hanging out. There's a museum in City Park, that's fun. Magazine Street in the Garden District is fun for shopping. There's also a Whole Foods on Magazine Street. Take a trip on the trolley cars! Take a do-it-yourself ghost tour!
First, go to hustler to see some slutty chicks... Well, honestly, its been years since I've been...I'll probably look at what everyone else posts...I remember going and taking the train/trolley and doing some touring...I went to NOLA's (Emeril's place), it was ok, but not worth the money...Pat O's, etc...Anyway, have fun...
I just went for a weekend in early June. I used to go about 10 years ago once or twice a year. I have to say it has gone down hill considerably since then. I remember it used to be a lot of live music places, and a few strip clubs, now it is a lot of strip clubs and a few live music places. I could not find any zydico music playing anywhere....sad.. That being said, we did enjoy the ghost tours, the steamboat ride on the Nachez, and the Harrahs casino. However, I will not be going back there again.......it is a dump now. DD
"Long before the SuperDome, Where the Saints of football play, Lived a city that the damned called home, Hear their hellish roundelay... New Orleeeans... Home of pirates, drunks, and whores! New Orleeeans... Tacky, overpriced, souvenir stores! If you want to go to Hell, you should make that trip to the Sodom and Gomorrah on the Mississipp'! New Orleeeans... Stinking, rotten, vomiting, vile! New Orleaaans... Putrid, brackish, maggoty, foul! New Orleeeans... Crummy, lousy, rancid, and rank! New Orleeeans!"
All the things suggested above are good. If you're in the quarter, check out Pirates alley. There are a bunch of cool shops plus Faulkner's house which has a badass store. Also, there's a great restaraunt called The Upperline which is ironically located on a street called Upperline in the garden district. If you're looking for something pleasant/laid back to do in the evening. I'd park and just walk around the Garden District. The homes there are gorgeous.
That is it, but it is not a bad casino. However, I have never had to much luck at the blackjack tables there.
There's a Bally's north of town off I-10 and there's a Boomtown (I think) off in some industrial area east of town.
Harrah's casino is a lot like Vegas...very nice.... I won at Holdem and at Let it Ride...been there twice in the last 6 months...won over 1k each trip. DD
If you guys want to get away from the touristy stuff, go uptown to Ms. Mae's bar, 4336 Magazine St. This is a great little hangout bar off of St. Charles where you can get liquored up for almost nothing. I was there on a Friday night last April. $1.50 domestics, $3.50 calls.... They make a mean bloody mary. Then hit the french quarter. Check out the House of Blues for some live music. The House of Blues is off Decatur in the French Quarter. If you're older than 30, stay off of Bourboun Street. There are a lot of upscale bars off of Decatur street that cater to the older crowd, or just go to Pat O'briens. A previous poster commented on the smell of New Orleans. Its a funky little town, but thats what I like about it. Its dirty, yet after a few drinks, you don't really care. Also, if you like jazz, check out Snug Harbor. Have fun, and be safe....
