Watching some vids on Kolek...raw stuff that definitely needs some refinement, but kid can at least throw strikes. In the Perfect Game showcase, had a few pitches right on the black. Needs to work on pitching inside a little and improve on his overall command, but this kid has some serious potential. Usually kids that throw that hard and are that big have a hard time just throwing strikes (Allie Stetson, Pirates). Honestly I think it's between Aiken and Kolek right now. Rodon has been way overused IMO with the pitch counts he's racked up not only this year, but all 3 years. He's a horse, but the diminished stuff has to scare some people.
Looking more and more like three straight years of no can't miss prospect at the top of the draft. And to think everyone here was penciling Rodon in as the future ace of the staff for months.
Sure as s*** scares me. I understand the NCST coach is concerned about winning and his team...but he's near criminal in the way he's abusing Rodon. This isn't Japan and this isn't the 1930's. He doesn't have to throw 120 pitches every time out. Something is clearly different this season with his velocity and it can be pinpointed with pretty good accuracy to overuse. The Astros might still be watching, but something is going to have to change quick if they're still considering him at 1-1. Maybe draft him and then shut him down for the year.
Wouldn't you rather them find out about his arm issues now, rather than after they draft him? All arms give out eventually... some sooner than others. Appell had a pretty heavy work-load over the last two seasons, but it didn't reflect in his stuff. Most top-notch college pitchers throw a lot of pitches each start (as they get more time off in between starts to rest).
Rodon stats 10 GS W-L 3-6 ERA 2.15 71 IP 61 H 33 R 17 ER 79 K 24 BB Those numbers appear to be pretty dominant. I do know that he has had several cold weather starts this spring (since NC has had a very cold spring). I suspect that he will post better numbers to finish the season.

They don't throw every five days in college like in the pros, that isn't a number that should be alarming actually
