Question about matching salaries and the Clippers.....

In the Clippers case, Maggete and Brand were both restricted free agents. Both signed long-term deals for big $$$.

So here is my dumb question....

When teams "match" offers does that mean they are taking on the length and term of the contract that was offered by the other team, or does it simply mean that these 2 players remain Clippers for another year until they become unrestricted free agents??

They take on the actual contract that the player signed with the other team.

Maybe, just schmaybe, because Elton Brand is the first real star he's had to resign in over 10 yrs. If he had kept the Bison Dele's, Maurice Taylor's and Kandi's throughout history at the ridiculous money they were asking, he'd never have Brand right now, much less be able to afford him.

then again, the other side of the argument is that he had to spend the money anyhow, or forfeit the difference between his team salary and 75% of the cap to the Player's Union.

Anyhow, he's set to have Brand, Maggette and Odom and *still* be under the cap, with a cadre of rookie scale legitate players. No matter how you slice it, Sterling is coming out looking sterling, if Odom wises up and stays.

btw: Don't forget that he signed Dunleavy to $10m.

    maybe he's dying or something

Hopefully their free agents turn into slackers after receving a big contract like ours did.

Otherwise, they could be our main competition for that final playoff spot.

Part of the reason for Sterling's change of heart probably is because he is making good money, especially this year with the Lux tax payout.

    Why?

They didn't compete last year with Miller(The supposed true PG savior).

Why should they compete this year without him?
