Bloomberg Poll 2/3 of Repubs Pick Israel over the US if Interests Diverge

You're getting beat up over this, so I just wanted to say that I agree with your general point: complex sentences increase the noise level in surveys because they can be interpreted in different ways. For instance, the phrase "even if our interests diverge" ... does that suggest our interests are polar opposites, or is it just a detour? How diverged are they? If I choose that option, am I doing so because I like democracy ("the only democracy in the region"), or am I doing so because I trust Israel more than the US ("we should support it even if our interests diverge")?

I don't agree with your other points though - that the poll is trash and should be thrown out. It has a higher noise level, which should be understood and taken into consideration when evaluating it's results.

 

One of the same arguments I use when speaking with ATW about the Pew polls of Muslim countries. Nuanced stances are difficult to put your fingers on with opinion surveys.

I suspect many aren't informed of where US and Israeli interests diverge, like selling radar technology or drones to China, for example, which many in Israel are butthurt over because the US forbade it.
