About 20 games ago I'd have hated to lose Terry in a deadline deal, now it's a different story. He seems to have fallen off.
Damn, he seem to enjoy the team too. Don't want to see him go.. but we have to do what we have to do.
I honestly hope they do not trade him. At the beginning of the season I assumed he was contract filler, but his veteran presence, reliable outside shooting and coaching is too valuable to this team at this point. And, really, I don't think the Rockets will trade him any longer. In fact, I think that is one of the reasons they got Shved -- to use him as contract filler so they don't have to use Terry. Shved and Kostas is 8 million right there. You add in Capela or Jones you're at almost 10 million. I am not sure who the Rockets are planning on acquiring, but are they going to be making over 10 mill? Possibly, and, if so --sure, you trade Terry, i would agree with that. But, I think they are most likely going to add someone like Dragic, whose contract is closer to 10 million, and that they are going to keep Terry coming off the bench.
First off- Alex Kennedy isnt a legit insider. His formula is to either make educated guesses sound like sourced rumors(hedging his bets to build cred, or just recycle Woj tweets minutes after Woj makes them. Secondly- this shows a lack of knowledge of Houstons contract situation. Shved and Papanikolaou are most likely going to be the first two contracts to be offered by Morey in trade talks and that's pretty obvious. Lastly- this just isn't how Morey works. He's going to be heating up the phones like crazy the next few weeks but he's not going to think that putting Jason Terrys name out there is going to get conversations started. What's going to work is focusing on helping teams out where he sees their pain points lie. Then once the conversations grow you then start factoring in how to make the deal work. My guess is the Calderon name is thrown out there to get Knicks fans hits. No other reason. If Morey wanted Calderon he would have had him a long time ago and would have figured out a way to get the deal done before the Knicks made the deal with Cleveland so Houston could have been the recipient of the very last asset the Knicks had to offer in Shumpert. In other words .... Kennedy is full of BS. Nothing to see here.
I don't think he makes it up, he just repeats what is already out. That's why i stopped following him.
Terry's expiring contract is our most liquid asset when it comes to having moveable salary to combine together for a trade for a big piece. It doesn't take an insider to tell us that it's on the table for the right price. Yeah Terry is playing a valuable role for us off the bench, but don't tell me we couldn't get similar production from, say, SIGNING RAY ALLEN AT THE DEADLINE! But, you gotta find the right seller to make moving the Terry contract worth it. Right now no one on the team besides Harden can be relied upon more to hit an open three. Shooting is at a premium on our team right now; everyone seems to have gone cold.
