Now that we have signed Jimmy Chitwood, I mean Mark Jackson, who believes we will win the championship. I'm not talking hope, or if's, or anything else. The Believers think nothing can stop us now and that all pistons are firing. The Non believers have some form of doubt.

Cmon man, championship this year? No way. We are WAY too bad in crunch time to talk about that. We can always rely on Steve to do something stupid to kill our momemtum, as long as he's shooting bad and turning the ball over at an incredible rate, we'll only be 1st, MAYBE 2nd round material. Yao is the first step to make a us a great team, Steve would be the 2nd...unfortunately he's not there yet. Will he ever be?

Expecting JVG to take our ball club (who didn't make the playoffs last year) to the championship in his first year is unerasonable. We should be happy just to make the first round, and the second round would be gravy.

    Next year, however...

I'm usually a pretty optimistic guy but come on!!! CHAMPIONSHIP? We would also break the record for a quickest 180 degree turn in a team. The most realistic dream for us right now is to get into the play offs. That's all I'm asking for this year.

Maybe it's just me, but beating the worst team in the NBA that was also single covering Yao all night long just doesn't fill me with the optimism that it does for some people

How come there are 18 believers and only 8 non-believers, yet the most vocal ones are the non-believer minority?

I believe in the Rockets. Not just Yao or Steve or JVG, but the team. GO ROX!

Because the non-believers actually have logical reasons for their beliefs, and the non-believers are just spunky.

I've ALWAYS believed. Been burned alot... but it did actually pay off twice.
Besides that I actually do think things are starting to come together.

One of the believer votes should be non at this point..

I voted before reading PSJ's initial post...I assumed he meant "Do you believe in this team?"

It would be a miracle to even make it to the Finals, much less win it all.

I believe that this team can do it....just not this year.

Im willing to bet that others have done what I did...Im one of the biggest homers here...and even I dont think we win the Finals this year.

but we damn well are going the right way...and think with one more year to get everyone at the top of their game..(think guard shooting and Yao being able to beat doubles consistently)..we will make it to the Finals.

it all depends on SF and Yao being all they can be.

    I believe!

I think Yao is just starting to come into his own and if SF's game starts to pick up watch out we are one scary team... factor in our league leading defense I dont think any team wants us in the first round..

If we can get past the 1st... I think we have a legitimate chance.. which team can beat us best of 7 if all our cylinders are clicking?

With half a season left and based on the current standings I believe we have as good a chance to win the title as anyone based on our defense and low post play.

I am a believer -- in the future.

This team's future will be tested and proved by two things:

1 how they learn from the minutes MJ can give, on the court and at practice

2 what moves are made over the summer to increase the talent base and 'fits' of the team

I predict (hope, perhaps?) that next year Rox will be challenging for home court. In the East, for sure if Rox played there, but EVERYONE in the West is competitive, at worst, and terrific, at best.

Maybe next year, after Malick Badiane joins the teams and shows how brilliant the Rocket's really are.

Yeah, he is going to be a beating :D

    BRILLIANT!

I'm believer but not this year. We still have some monkeys on our back meaning that we have yet to BEAT the Mavs , Kings and the Spurs. We dont match up well with them. I dont think we have enough firepower to have shootout with them.

wow, only 4 posts into the thread, quicker than i thought.

and A-Train is right, people go crazy as soon as anything good or bad happens. if every team was anchored by andrew declerq, i'd be more confident. as it is, i'll be extremely happy if we see the second round.

and DearRock, we don't have a top 2 or 3 player yet, which has been a prereq for a title for a long time it seems. we're certainly not breaking the mold in our first trip to the playoffs.
