Just curious since I'm a die hard Texas BBQ fan,
I'd like to know if any of you guys have tried the competition.
I'm always open to trying new bbq.

I love Memphis Barbecue (maybe because it's so similar to what my Grandpa from Arkansas made). Never tried Kansas City Style, but I know don't like their sauce. Birmingham has the best barbecue of the less famous barbecue places.

Really, there are 4 types of bbq and those are Carolina, Memphis, Texas, and Kansas City.

Carolina is famous for their whole hog bbq. Memphis is famous for their ribs and pulled pork. Texas is the king of beef bbq. Kansas City is sort of a combination of those three plus sausages and other various meats. Each place also uses different woods to smoke, sauces, and techniques.

So when you're looking at Memphis and Kansas City the only thing really different is the meat because Texans love their beef and maybe the flavor because of a different sauce and smoke flavor.

I have tried every one except Carolina and I love them all but I am not a big beef eater so Texas always comes up short on my list but I was not raised there either so I am sure that has something to do with it.

memphis bbq is good. Had a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on top (That's how they did it there). It was good, really good...but nothing comes close to good ol' Texas brisket

A friend of mine, Amy Evans, who went to HSPVA ended up getting a PhD at Ole Miss essentially on Southern BBQ. She's the head of the Oral History Initiative for the Southern Foodways Alliance.

I recommend this site for ideas on BBQ joints in TN.

BBQ is my favorite. When I went to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl, I was really impressed. Rendevous is the place to go and Memphis BBQ is all about the ribs. Can't wait for a return trip.

    Funny,

Some of the BEST BBQ I have ever had in my life was......

Famous Dave's in New Jersey!

Seriously I've lived in Houston all my life and this place was top notch. Everything from the ribs to beans to bread pudding. They had it down.

Kansas City BBQ is ok, I've always been a little biased toward Texas anyway.

KC bbq is a little too sweet for my taste but sometimes I do crave it for something a little different.

It pretty much a given that Memphis BBQ has the best BBQ of anybody. Apologies to all of the Texans here, but the Memphis bar is set really high, and you just have to accept it and move on.

Food Network did a show on this, and Memphis demolished Texas, KC and Carolina by a wide margin. We also have the World Championship of BBQ in Memphis for a reason.

    Don't hate congratulate!

I think it depends on what you like to eat. I have yet to have a good chopped beef brisket sandwich in Memphis...and I've been there many times.

They have great pork, though. Their ribs are the best that I have ever had.

I am a big brisket fan, and Texas brisket is the best (IMO)
