I called it in another thread. The media just likes to make stuff up. http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/0812/1417160.html
I think its more a case of the players not wanting to look like the bad guys. A strike date will be set, sooner or later.
Bob hit the nail on the head. PR move. Now, ball is in the owner's court. Honestly, can they just settle this in the offseason?
They basically said that they would wait untill they have a big conference call with the owners on Friday. They will strike, the only leverage the players have is to threaten the season and they have proven that they are quite willing to do that.
The Owners could draft a one page letter saying they would NOT set an economic system in the offseason without the players agreeing. This would allow them to continue to negotiate. Of course, if the players don't strike the Owners will implement their own system. DD
Yeah, yeah. That's what we've heard every time the media's been totally wrong about the players setting a strike date. Mark my words, again-there will not be a strike.
OOOOOh I wish they would strike. Bseball is not interesting at all and sometimes it comes on when CHEATERS does. We can't have that!
