Well, Christian Wood fails again <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Rockets close to training camp signings of Denzel Livingston, Will Cummings,, Remi Yusuf and Chris Walker, per source.</p>— Jonathan Feigen (@Jonathan_Feigen) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jonathan_Feigen/status/639473140020543488">September 3, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Because you can carry 20 people till the end of October. Final roster is 15. There is no reason why teams don't carry the extra 5 bodies in training camp for various reasons. Not sure why the Rockets are one of the only ones. Currently 14 guaranteed roster spots: PG: Lawson, Beverley, Terry SG: Harden, Thornton SF: Ariza, Brewer, McDaniels, Dekker PF: Motiejunas, Jones, Harrell C: Howard, Capela That's 14 Then there are the hopefuls to get that final spot - -Wood -Livingston -Cummings -Yusuf -Walker My guess is since there are only 4 players added, the Rockets still might be adding another veteran as the 15th man. If not, and Wood was the likely 15th man, I would think that they would have signed 5 camp invitees today with the thought process of signing them to help with camp bodies and retain their RGV rights. If no more veterans are added, then that last roster spot will be very interesting. It makes Christian Wood as a very interesting prospect to watch as there is a definite need for another true 5 if Dwight or Capela miss extended time. Some veterans to keep an eye out for- -Reggie Evans -Jason Maxiel -Ryan Hollins -Brenden Haywood -Boozer (not a 5 but still) -Elton Brand
I'm available if the Rockets need more training camp bodies. I've been working on my quick release free throw.
Chris Walker hasn't lived up to the hype since high school but he def has the physical tools to get there. He needs a couple years of seasoning in the Dleague.
WOW that is not bad at all for a bit over one month worth of work!! A lot of guys would pay to be there...
My guess is that we don't fill that last spot at all. Or, if we keep Wood (or equivalent) that he's waived in January. If we couldn't sign Hayes on a partially guaranteed deal, we can't sign anyone.
If another veteran out there is willing to take a partial guarantee like a Reggie Evans or Jason Maxiell, you don't think the Rockets would sign them? If you can have another insurance veteran at a position of potential need why not sign him? Why a veteran would sign that type of contract instead of retiring or playing overseas is another question. I'd personally rather just keep Christian Wood and take a chance on a young guy rather than messing with a burnout veteran on his last leg, but I guess we shall see.
