Unless Capela does an extreme about-face he will not be the defensive anchor of a Jeff Van Gundy coached defense. JVG will want a true starting center that can lock down the paint and glass for75 games or so. Capela needs to gain about 20 lbs of muscle mass at a minimum and improve drastically his defensive positioning in the middle. It's just not there with Capela right now. Keep dreaming. Remember what I told you about Terrence in December of 2013. Very few people agreed at the time when Terrence was flying high his first month as our staring 4. But I knew. More than anything physical or skills wise (which were and are still lacking), I knew Terrence's head wasn't screwed on right. Hate to break it to you but Capela has played the first 2 seasons of his career on instinct. He hasn't learned nearly enough. And when he is forced to think he's too slow. Van Gundy's system requires high iq ballers on the defensive end that can process quickly. Capela isn't going to fit UNLESS he has a miraculous turn around this summer. He should be at TC right now working out with the coaching staff. But we don't even have one yet. The odds of Capela being anything more than an 8th-10th man in a Van Gundy rotation are very small.
Dont really agree with you about being a genius to play in jvg defensive sytem. His system is the same as it always has been. Court balance, blitzing pnr, minimum offensive tebound opportunities. The same rockets team that was bad pre jvg, same players, big improvement. Hos teams, like thibs, zone at end of shot clocks and they contest shots. I'm not saying Capela is anything special defensively, but he could play well in a jvg system. The bigger problem is jvg offensively.
Capela showed soft touch around the basket with the ability to catch the ball last season. It was missing this season. Is it because his hands are truly Cato like? If yes, then hands can't be coached.
Well, we're going to get our first taste of a head to head matchup now. Can a 30 year old DH12 keep up with the 22 year old phenom who made him obsolete? Who's making predictions?
I'll be surprised if Capela doesn't get into foul trouble early and this isn't a Nene filled type game
Well can you admit it now, that Dwight was the cancer some of us KNEW he was...and the team was better off without him? DD
Dwight is doing pretty well in Atlanta. If you're going to ask if he's a cancer, now is not the right time
Dwight is not going to come out to guard the High PnR, so MDA is going to run our 3-man, Horns Pick for the Picker version of the PnR and Anderson is going to be free all game long. Ryno sets a pick for Harden, and Capela sets a pick for Ryno....3 is open all day if the opposing 5 does not come out to help guard it. If interested, I'll post a compilation video of how this works, so y'all can judge how Dwight will defend it.
No he wasn't. It fell apart in the end, but the team was great with him, especially the first two years.
