Article over at a Memphis blog mentioning how they gave Lowry away for nothing.

They got a 1st round pick out of that deal, so it's not "nothing." D. Carrol didn't work out but that's not an issue with the trade, they just didn't use the pick wisely.

really? that's the trade they are concerned about?

they gave away a far superior player in gasol, for the hopes that his younger brother would be just as good, i like marc a lot, but that trade was just stupid

He's got nothing to complain about. 6 mil per year is a good starter salary.

agree the lakers absolutely stole Pau Gasol despite someone elses thread on here saying how good the lakers would be with Mark.. Pau might be the most underrated PF on this board..

Anyways the trade didnt work out so badly for the Griz either though. THe trade allowed them to get Zach Randolph... Marc Gasol + randolph is a pretty damn good front line

How is it stupid? He's not getting any younger, they weren't contending, and they dropped a lot of salary. Marc is a very good player and is so much cheaper. Cheaper being the key word here.

Because they could have gotten more.. They traded a beast PF for an unproven draft pick.

Do you have any idea how often that trade is thrown in Grizz fans faces? They've heard enough of that deal much like we've heard enough of the Battier for Gay trade.

i thought they had talent they just needed some more pieces, to give him to the lakers for nothing is stupid, imo. they still had mike miller, conley, gay, lowry, then they drafted oj (not sure if they got that pick in the trade with la). not a great team, but they aren't a great team now either

It was stupid because they made the trade weeks before the deadline without listening to any other offers for Gasol. If they had fielded offers and that joke of a trade package the Lakers offered was the best available deal it wouldn't have been stupid to trade him because, as you point out, they needed a fresh start.

the stupid thing abuot it is...if the grizzlys traded pau to some random scrub team like the minnesota timberwolves or something..then no one would care..it would just be like a jason kidd trade or something..but the r****dd grizzlie managment traded him to the fuereckin lakers...and changed the landscape of the nba for the next 5 yeras...

girzzlies are the worst franchise to the nba...if stern wants to contract...he knows who to do it from..

Fast forward... Lowry is a star AND we have Demarre Carroll.

Could this trade pan out to be even worse than the Gasol trade?

Slow your roll bro, let's win a c'ship b4 we look at Gasol-trade comparison.

I hope Thabeet can see half of Lowry's improvement and that would be a big Thank You to Memphis. Demarre- don't know much about him.

That's why I asked if it could pan out to be worse than the Gasol trade...

Although for a better comparison in the future it's not fair to compare rings, but rather the trade itself and the individual talents of each player. At least the Grizz got Marc Gasol out of that trade. In the Lowry trade all they received was cash and then wasted their 1st round pick.
