Seeing how everyone loves to point out his "gm skillz", let's not forgot the many, many misfires he's had along the way and how it's come to bite the team in the ass.

Might I remind you of this deadline humdinger.........

    Aaron Brooks for Jordan Hamilton.

Could really use Brooks now. Instead the team is suffocated by Lin's contract and lack of talent after being scouted, and Hamilton is in a long line of tweener SF/PF's after Garcia and Casspi who don't have a legitimate role or consistent play. Absolutely pointless trade at the time, and even moreso now.

I have no issues with going for the big one. naive as it has been at times... but the constant tinkering with the squad like it's a fantasy team is a huge weakness that has hurt Houston the past 5 years. Darryl I know you read this, take heed.

Beverley is coming back. These losses won't drop us lower in the standings.

We'll need Hamilton more than Brooks in the playoffs.

I made the post keeping the playoffs in mind... didn't expect the Rockets to finish better than 4th this season.

How many minutes would Brooks get assuming a healthy Beverly and Lin?

Maybe he should've gotten minutes over Lin...

I absolutely do not trust Lin or Canaan with the ball in their hands against playoff defense. Don't forget Lin has trouble bringing it up the court against full presses, which is laughable but he represents a community so we can't mention these obvious things, and Canaan is completely unproven and new to the offense. Give me gutsy performers like Brooks ----see Lakers series.

Do you have any proof that Lin has trouble bringing it up the court against full presses?

Brooks is wildly inconsistent too though.

In the end he was our third string PG and we needed a better swingman. Maybe didn't work out but it made sense to take the risk.

Brooks > Hamilton, but Brooks wouldn't get play time over 8 million and Beverley. Hamilton is a bit better than Casspi and Garcia, I guess, so that's why the trade was made. Also, mostly just a favor to Aaron Brooks for being fantastic to the organization. Brooks is in a great situation right now, but to get his next big contract it's all in his hands.

Morey has given us two all-star players in two consecutive years and people are complaining about trading away Aaron Brooks the savior. ClutchFans at its finest right here.

Yeah man, a good GM would be able to predict at the trade deadline that Beverly would get hurt. Why can't we have a psychic at GM like all the other teams?

So far, this is a bad trade. Brooks is barely a rotation player on a good team, but he is better than Hamilton and Canaan. That being said, Brooks wouldn't have made a real difference if he was still here.

i agree, morey should invest in some super natural powers out of this realm. perhaps remote neural monitoring, or direct energy attacks, or maybe master the power of as above, so below.

its nice of him to get us two all stars (not superstars), but a decent supporting cast, but we need more to contend. a coach that knows the difference between an x and an o is a great start. at least one shooter who can make an open three 9/10 times. and i dont think bev and lin will cut it as the pgs for next season. anything else? ahh yes, a coach who uses a playbook. dwight not being so streaky and shut down by physical guys, being a physical guy himself??? its make or break for dwight next season. im not entirely confident in him, but i say he's gonna make it. expect him to beast nex t seasons

Tonights lost wasn't because our PG spot i belive. Lin and Canaan did alright.

It was really (to me) our front court being depleted, Asik did great but the only other big we had Motiejunas, and he was fouled out basically (only played 8 mins total!).

    Lin/Canaan
    Harden/Garcia
    Parsons/Hamilton
    Casspi
    Asik

Is all we had to work with, i'm not mad at this loss. We desperetly need to sign a couple of backup bigs, or maybe one big and another PG, before we go into the playoffs.

None of our losses would've become wins with Brooks. He's not a difference maker. His play may be marginally better than Canaan, but certainly not enough to sway games. Even if Beverley would be out for the playoffs, Brooks wouldn't be cutting it anyway.

In the end while Hamilton looks like he'd be a non-factor for us, neither would Brooks had he stayed. You can say it was a garbage-in-garbage-out trade. But Morey didn't really make a mistake.

Your post reeks of knee jerk and fails to acknowledge the big picture. Give one good reason why you shouldn't be labeled a troll and ignored?

No GM is perfect, why the **** should anyone give a rat's ass about a crappy Brooks for Hamilton trade? DM is tinkering precisely because the team is not a contender yet, staying put is the worst thing you can do esp. with HnH in the squad already you won't be able to rely on a high lottery pick to bail you out

First of all Brooks is not a difference maker and is barely better than Canaan who is parked at the bench. Secondly Brooks is not related to Lin's performance at all, even if Brooks were on the squad Lin would still suck and Bev will still be injured so what's your point? You think having Brooks on the team would have resulted in a win tonight?

J-Ham is needed more than Brooks on this team, we already have Lin, Bev and Canaan who combined are much better than Parsons, Casspi and Garcia. Sure all of them are inconsistent but J-ham at least can get PT while Brooks can't even see the court. Even if you say J-Ham turned to be a worthless player, it is still a marginal player for marginal player trade so it is not something to create a thread about.

Also I like your point about DM hurting the team for the last 5 years with his "tinkering":

Houston Roster in 2009: Luis Scola, Trevor Ariza, Kevin Martin, Shane Battier, Brooks, David Andersen
    Record: 42-40

Houston Roster in 2014: Dwight Howard, James Harden, Chandler Parsons, Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, T-Jones, Dmo
    Record: 49-23

Yep, that tinkering really destroyed the Rox these past 5 years

The bench isn't constructed well. Too many young players and has-beens. No true back up shooting guard to spell Harden, no defense specialists, no real 3-pt specialists. D-Mo and Casspi are soft tissue paper defenders. Getting Anthony Morrow and Jermaine O'Neal would've been helpful.

He lucked into Harden and everything was a cakewalk from there. Thank Kobe for handing H-town Dwight. Vastly overrated, nowhere near the presti, spurs, indiana model.
