Can you mention the last time the Rockets had significant cap space to actually lure free agents?

    This thread is not valid.

The Rockets got one of the more desired free agents last year with Trevor Ariza so what is your point?

Exactly what free agents are refusing to come here? Or are you referring to the ones we will not over pay for?

And Carl Herrara, you can not name one single player the Rockets have mistreated. However, I can name some prima donna's such as TMac that received a kings ransom from the Rockets only to whine and be less cooperative with the team than his pay check required.

Capspace doesn't matter. What Morey needed to do was suck T-Mac's balls. When he didn't, we were automatically screwed. :p

T-Mac was a high quality player, when he asked for a trade to Houston to play with Yao. After Yao's injuries, it was all downhill. Nobody wants to play with a 7'6" Living Foot Injury.

Dream forced that by being greedy. I don't blame Les for calling his bluff.

Oh, and how did that work out for Toronto?

You know what it is about Houston?

    HUMIDITY

But if you learn to live with it, Houston is a great city to live in.

    Yao Ming

He is a great draw when healthy, but because his situation is tenative, he is hurting any chance of getting a top quality Free Agent, IMO.

Free-agents often tend to want a very limited number of things:

    1. Go to a team that can contend
    2. Go to a team where they can start or get more minutes
    3. Be reunited with a coach they like
    4. Go home to the place they're from or went to college
    5. get the biggest check
    6. play for a big market (hard to remember examples though)

    Don't want:

    1. decreased minutes
    2. to go to team with terrible cultures or that are a mess -- GS, Clippers, Memphis
    3. to go places that are foreign to them, or too cold
    4. to go to small markets
    5. to take a pay-cut or be "under-valued" (in their mind)

In terms of houston: I think we have a great, respected coach, but the team is hard to predict b/c of yao's recent injury history, and that makes it hard for players to predict if we are a near-term contender or not. we have a lot of players that look very promising but it might take another half or full season to figure out which way they are going in this leagure -- role player, starts, potential stars, etc.

houston could be a very young team in a year w/o yao and shane and luis... or we can be stabilized with a healthy yao and positive prognosis for yao, the development of our young talent and perhaps dramatically increased value of the knicks draft picks if the lose the free agent sweepstakes.

    tough to tell.

as far as houston the city, it's not nyc or la or boston or chicago or miami to free-agents except those that make their off-season homes here. however winning and org stability overcomes all that. free agents are happy to go to SA and Orlando.

Love to hear some more thoughts on what does and does not attract FAs.

Er... those "quality" free agents were both out of the league a few months later.
