We most likely don't have the money to match any offer that dmo will most likely receive due to hardens renegotiated contract. Is there a way to keep him that I'm not seeing besides trading brewer or another player? What are your thoughts?

Disagree with this, I think we match a reasonable offer or he accepts the qualifying offer.

Not true. The Rockets have his Bird rights so they can match any offer no matter what.

That said trading Brewer is a really good idea just to get him the hell off the roster so he doesn't see the court ever.

Not true. D-Mo can be re-signed or matched.

DMo as Full Bird Rights. We can exceed the cap to match all offers.

I agree with the thread title but not with the explanation.
We do have bird rights however if we pay him now next year we will have zero capspace.

U should understand some basic salary cap knowledge. DMO's re-sign has not any relationship with Harden's extension.

Nope, they are over the cap but well short of the lux tax line - they have plenty of $$$ to match, or have him do a one year QO...

Is there a limit to how much we can exceed it? If a team wants to pay him 15 mil per year can we still match that?

Cap space is a bit over rated now. Of course no one will have Golden State Warriors levels of cap space because four of their guys all signed before the cap jumped and they lucked into the 24 million bump in cap space. It was all perfect timing and I don't see **** like that ever happening again. At the very least not anytime soon.

But if teams can move Andrew Bogut, Jose Calderon, and Mike Dunleavy then Houston will find a way to move Brewer, Ariza, Beverley or whoever not named Harden.

If a free agent like Westbrook for some reason wants to come to Houston then we will find a way to make room for him. If a guy wants to come to your team you'll figure it out, and this isn't something new either. Warriors did it years ago for Igoudala.

You can clear all three with nothing in return and still not enough if you pay DMO.

I think the OP understands that we don't have to use capspace to keep DM but I feel like the OP is just thinking to maintain flexibility, we might opt to let DM go.

Harden's new contract cuts into a pretty massive chunk of the cap.

Up to the max of whatever any team wants to give him. The only consideration is how much do you want to commit to Dmo vs any other potential player in FA in the next couple years. Anything over $10m and it's trading for players from here on out.
