How many teams are still out there with $15m+ in cap space and a need for a PF? If he doesn't get a large offer sheet I wouldn't be too worried about signing him and eating into next years cap as long as his contract is movable. If a max FA shakes loose next year it wouldn't be too hard to move some combo of Ariza, Bev, Brewer and Dmo.
People really have to understand that not every team is out to contend. A lot of teams just want to be relevant first of all. Also that Ariza, Bev, Brew will be expiring contracts and so not as unattractive...
Uh, then move Dmo? or don't sign Dmo? Like I said, if a player says he wants to go to your team then of course you make the room. For all we know Dmo likely just takes a QO and he leaves next summer. Dmo is a role player. Someone who can be replaced. A fan favorite for sure, but Parsons was a fan favorite as well. Besides how many big time free agents will there be next summer? 4 or 5? Blake, Westbrook, Curry? Who else? It's not like we're going to trade away good role players just to give another decent roleplayer more money. We're not going to move Ariza so we can give Tyreke Evans 18 million a year.
Now that the extension for Harden has been finalized we are probably closer to seeing DMO signed. Either by us or someone else. Now that we are officially out of cap space for the year barring a trade, if some is going to step to us and sign Dmo, daring us to match the time would be now.
That' what I'm saying. It's more likely after this extension that Morey doesn't ign DMO. It will severely hurt our flexibiity for next year and make it almost impossible to sign a star. Cp3, Blake, Westbrook, Curry, Hayward, Lowry, Gallinari, Millsap, Ibaka, Teague, Holiday. And some good rfa who may not matched like Noel.
Here is the thing, most really smart fans look deeper at the ROLE they are playing and whether that particular ROLE is easily replaceable. Parsons - we let go and still have not replaced the role he played - not so easy to replace a skilled SF that can also create and help take the burden off of Harden. DMo - his role is a low post scorer that can also stretch the floor and create - if DMo leaves, who has his post game? So, see, every time you remove a UNIQUE skillset you get weaker as a team - that has been Morey's biggest problem in looking only at numbers but NOT at fit, or chemistry. DMo's post game is a HUGE weapon which we missed drastically last year with him out so much, put too much of a burden on Harden and we went 41-41. Sometimes the RIGHT role player is the difference in many games a year, that is DMo...if healthy. If he leaves it takes a significant option off of our team. DD
Silly clutch fan people trix are for kids. Dmo becomes and even bigger priority because now we have his salary and talent to dangle in trades or sign and trades next summer. . Even if the rockets match we will be well below the tax line. Morey is a genius after all.
If we sign Motiejunas, we will be the most injury prone team in the league next year. A healthy team always has a chance to compete. An injured team has little to no chance. Think about that for a second Morey.
Sitting at the table next to dmo right now at coppa in rice village. Weird, this is the 2nd time this week we have been at the same restaurant
