Only 12,870 PAID attendance on a Friday night at the Toyota center...ouch. Has support for this team sunk that low? I mean I know the lockout combined with not having a good team has to be a factor but attendance so far seems very low.
Nothing really exciting about the team. They aren't winning a ring and they don't have a hopeful stud young prospect.
Attendance have been a problem since about 97,98. Houston is a good sports city for the well deserving. When, as an owner you put out average product, you get average attendance. When you put a winner out, people come out. I support the rockets, but I don't to nearly as many games as I used to.
Nearly the same as the average in 2000-2001: 12,648 ESPN showing the home average for this season(3 games) at 15,661(21 of 30). Also home total attendance(3 games) at 46,984(29 of 30-Bucks being last) Edit: In the five home games... 18,267 vs SA 14,390 vs ATL 14,327 vs OKC 12,870 vs SAC 11,676 vs POR 71,530 Average of ~14,306
Mediocre team with no exciting young players, no stars playing on friday night ... Against another team with few road fans and a losing record.. It is a wonder 12,000 showed up.. This team needs to tank.
Yep. At least utah has the haul they got from nj. Denver and portland also are winning. The rockets have a team full of role players.
Team sucks AND is boring Playing Sac Arena will be full when we play teams like Miami, Chicago, NYK tho
I bet the Timberwolves have more attendance, now that they have Rubio. Their record has always been awful. Tanking doesn't always mean lower attendance.
Fans are different depending on the city. Didn't Chicago sell out all of their home games the 10 years following Jordan? Or something close to that?
i think with the way Morey is shopping our many assets, some of the fans are afraid that he might get caught up in the frenzy and start trading fans too
Attendance has always been bad with the rockets. Even though the astros sucked hard they still had pretty good friday night crowds. Between 1999 and 2009 the rockets were bottom 5 in attendance in the entire NBA. http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/bullstopnbaattendance_091028.html
houston is not really a basketball city. they'll come out when the team is winning but don't are when they're average. not to mention this team is kinda boring and does not have an exciting player (i like lowry but he's not a highlight kind of player)
Yup. Fairweather Houston sports fans will do that. No one in Houston draws consistently. I compare it very much to Florida fans (I'm looking at you, Miami), though not THAT bad. This isn't really surprising. I actually think it's pretty impressive they drew that much to begin with.
Thats not true the texans have sucked forever before last year and they sold all their game. The astros who were by far the worst team in the MLB drew 25k and were in the middle of the pack.
