With the Knicks at 3-10 without any real reason to expect a dramatic improvement, passing on going to a real contender for the money and lifestyle in NY is his likely legacy. They will have some cap space next year, but the star free agents available next year is very limited, and I wouldn't consider the Knicks to be the favorites to land any of them. Taking guaranteed money is fine, but let's not pretend that he stayed in NY because they give him the best chance to win.

I thought that article was sad. You want to transcend basketball, Melo? Try fixating on something other than yourself. Check this out, for example: http://wildaid.org/ivoryfree

I'm glad this loser isn't on my team. I don't care if he were to win 12 championships with a bum knee. Obsessing over becoming a "cultural icon" = loser, in my book.

That article was incredibly unflattering. Melo doesn't have a handler smart enough to read it and realize that?

He freely admits his whole life's goal isn't to do anything impactful but to have people continue admiring him for the money he makes after basketball. That is pathetic.

The honesty is brutal to the reputation he craves.

Who wants to bet that Hakeem had the very same "I want to build something that lasts" conversations, too. But, of course, that was probably after the rings when he finally got paid Robinson money.

Carmelo Anthony is going to fade into obscurity like other former star players that had major flaws and never won anything... How often does the name Bobby Bonilla come up? Otis Birdsong? Mark Aguirre? ...

Enjoy your money Melo, because at 45 no one in NY is going to have memories of you, and in Denver you will be remembered as a loser.

Mark Aguirre has two rings as one of the Big Three in Detroit.

Who's up for some Illinois HS State BBall History that led to an NBA Title Repeat team:
Mark Aguirre and Isiah Thomas both played HS ball in Chicago. Mark from Westinghouse in the Chicago Public League. Thomas went to a private Catholic school in Suburban Chicago.
They met in the Finals and Aguirre won.

Then Isiah won an NCAA Championship with Bobby Knight in Indiana while Mark stayed in Chicago at DePaul

    Then
Mark Aquirre was picked #1 in the NBA Draft in 1981
    Isiah Thomas was #2

Then Isiah was almost, finally, busting through the Bird Celtics, but Adrian Dantley's offensive game seemed to have peeked, so Detroit traded Dantley for Aguirre

...and then ... Mark and Isiah were finally on the same team, and they immediately won two chips in a row.

    Mark Aguirre is largely forgotten.
He isn't well liked, didn't play or practice hard.
He was an all star player with lots of warts and flaws.
He can go hang out with Tom Chambers, Xavier McDaniel, Stephen Marbury, Steve Smith, Steve Francis, Otis Birdsong, Glen Rice, Kiki Vandeweghe, Kelly Trapuica and the hundreds of other really good but not great players that fade into obscurity.

Anthony isn't Jordan or Olajuwon or James or Duncan. When you think of Anthony, do you think of any great defining moment in the NBA? Do you remember him battling deep in the playoffs and dominating? Does he have a defining moment as a pro? Hell even Amare has dominating Duncan in the playoffs early in his career.

    Speak for yourself.

History tells the story of Mark Aguirre and Isiah. Mark was the missing piece that Detroit needed and he was definitely one of the Big Three for that team -- Isiah, Dumars and Aguirre ... and the thugs.

Adrian Dantley could not beat Kevin McHale. He was just too short, and his half court game slowed down Isiah and Detroit. So, mid-season of Title #1, Detroit traded Dantley for Aguirre and they started running more along with a better half court attack against Chicago, Boston and LA.

    Then they Repeated

The issue is with all the delusional ppl surrounding him, taking advantage of his ego from being a ball player, he might end up broke chirping pyramid scheme slogans.
