Am I alone here? I have a hard time spending money on myself. I might pick up a used game or two at Gamestop once a month or a hat or t-shirt, but that's it. I have a hard time making large purchases. Does anyone else have this problem? And please tell me what you guys do splurge on, and what your budget is per month. Thanks.
i don't shop much but ever since i've been on slickdeals, i've been spending money on stuff i don't even need b/c of the savings. i can't remember the last time i bought something besides groceries or toiletries at a B&M store. I've been kicking myself for going to the casino this weekend and dropping $400. i don't even like going to casinos but got suckered into going by a couple of friends.
I think that is a good trait to have.. i spend money on clothes a lot.. other than that, my large purchases have included a TV, a computer... and food/beer.
Yes. I would rather just save money. I feel like im wasting it when I buy something expensive. I have no problem spending it on food and beer though.
I used to splurge on myself when I was single. (clothes, video games, trips, partying, car) Now family comes first, with my budget in place I am still able to put some money into my savings. At times I'm tempted to splurge on myself but I rarely do. If I do its usually Chimay.
im unemployed and have been for over a month. im about to go to rei and buy some winter clothes and im thinking about buying an 08 audi avant s4. ive got problems.
I don't buy much for myself either but when I do they're really big purchases. Do you feel you're missing out or something?
I justify purchases usually by comparing the value against something I am willing to give up return. For example, you spend money on a brand new TV then that means spending less money on attending Rockets/Texans/Astros games instead watch them in glorious HD. Now this may seem like a bad tradeoff to give up real games in favor of a TV but it has more uses like watching movies, gaming etc..So now you can even save more money by reducing the number of times you go out to a theater. This doesn't mean its a permanant switch but lets say for atleast a year so you can offset the cost of purchasing a brand new TV. My brain works like that and so I need to give myself a reason to buy something and then sacrifice a few things in order to justify making the purchase. Another way of looking at is let's say your are shopping for clothes, buy the stuff that provides you the maximum utility. A nice pair of jeans will last you 2-3 years and maybe even more so this is where you invest more money instead of shopping for a normal pair, go for the designer jean even it costs more because over time you will wear it alot more than any other pair of pants you have.
I spend A LOT of money on myself. I have to have all of the new gadgets. The big TV's. The top of the line PC. Beer. Fixing up my car for looks/quickness. Bought 3 tattoos this Sunday night. Beer. 12/21/12. I'm not wasting my life.
I have GAS - guitar acquisition syndrome... but I strive to limit the large purchases to one every 2 years (unless there's something that's just simply too rare to pass up at too good a price). I work pretty hard, so rewarding myself like that is something I can justify.
We put a good bit of our money into spending accounts each month (clothing, household items, annual fees, dining out, entertainment, gifts, etc.) that we can use when the need arises. In addition to those, my wife and I each give ourselves $50 a month to spend on whatever the hell we want with no comments by the other party. Birthday and Xmas money goes into our personal accounts as well. I'll buy games here and there, but I use most of my money on books.
I am the same way. I hesitate on every purchase of 50 bucks. Took me months to convince myself to get an xbox 360
I'm a collector at heart. When I was little it was sports cards, when I was a little older, it was action figures (sports and others). I have some nerd hobbies now. I spend too much on authentic, vintage movie posters (mostly star wars). I also spend too much on firearms now. My wife and I have good income, and we are able to buy these things after we save a lot, so its not like we are living beyond our means. But still. I guess I try to focus purchases on things that I'll have 20 years from now and will be worth as much or more than what I paid for it. One strange thing is I'll nickle and dime on things that cost $50 to $100, and then have no problem blowing several hundred on that Australian one sheet green space Empire Strikes Back poster plus frame. I make myself feel better because my wife and I eat at restaurants a lot less than we used to, so the Amex bills tend to stay fairly level.
