RGV Vipers Acquire Matt Carlino

    MCALLEN, Texas, January 3, 2016 – The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers today announced that the team has acquired Matt Carlino from the available player pool. Carlino fills the Vipers’ open roster spot following Jarvis Summers’ season-ending injury.

    Carlino (guard, 6-2, 175, Marquette) joins the Vipers after starting the season with Boulazac Basket Dordogne (France Pro-B). He averaged 12.4 ppg in 10 appearances with Boulazac.

    Carlino played his senior season (2014-15) at Marquette, where he averaged 15 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 3.1 apg. He was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team after leading the league in 3-point field goals made per game (3.4) and finishing fourth in scoring during BIG EAST play with 17.2 ppg. Carlino finished the season as Marquette’s leading scorer and ended the campaign shooting 42 percent from three-point range, as well as leading the squad from the free throw line at 82 percent. Carlino also led the team with 40 steals.

    Prior to his senior season, Carlino played three seasons (2010-14) at Brigham Young University. He redshirted his freshman season (2010-11). Over three seasons at BYU, Carlino averaged 12.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 4.6 apg. As a junior, he also served as team captain, ranked first in the WCC in assist/turnover ratio and recorded the sixth most steals in a season in BYU history. His sophomore season, Carlino tallied 64 steals, which are fourth most in a season in BYU history. He also tallied 171 assists, which rank third most in BYU single-season history.
