This whole new era of Rockets basketball all of us are consuming has all revolved around Daryl Moreys strive to get 3 stars.
Reading these threads and watching media it's fixated around only three stars on one team can now win a championship - but I'm here to tell you this is no longer.

Their truly are no teams left with 3 actual stars. Miami is done. OKC has 2 and still has the most street ball offense in the league, San Antonio has 2 in Duncan and Parker, Cleveland has one maybe 2, Clippers have 2, Indiana kind of sort of might have one..

All I'm trying to say is this:
    1) we have James Harden the best SG in the game
    2) we have Dwight Howard arguably the best C in the game

Last season was their first year together and their was way to much selfishness from all three (including chandler) regarding their stats and ego. Chandler gone is a good thing. Both for ego and $.

I don't post on here much I just want everyone to calm down and believe in our stars. They will grow and DM will do what needs to be done to make us contenders.

No. We should wait on this experiment of two top 10 young players being able to improve. We need a third star

This concept is to simplifiy it for the avg fan.
Reality is that if you don't have Lebron or a top 2-3 player on your team then it takes more "elite" (definition can be top 15-30?) players to be able to overcome that best player.
We have the best center and the best sg in the league but neither are top 5 players and they are not so much better than their counterparts of their position that they dominate every night.
Morey is saying that since our foundation piece is not Lebron, we need a little more help to be abke to overcome that gap.
Spurs had Duncan/Parker/Manu/Leonard/Diaw all playing like they were top tier players on various nights.
Think of it as fantasy basketball... You can win the league without having top 10 player but you need the rest of the guys to be compensating for that.

Durant, Westbrook and Ibaka are muchh better than Howard, Harden, and Ariza.

Cleveland is about to have three offensive stars. Two of whom are the best at their positions. With Dwight and Harden, the Rockets should just fill in with shooters, Ariza and defenders, Bev. Need a bench shooter and a stretch 4 and their fit could emulate the Spurs with better top level talent.

I wish you people will stop with the "Best SG and best C in the league" stuff. These are 2 of the weakest positions in the NBA today. It's not saying much.

True but Harden-Howard-Ariza is better than Harden-Howard-Parsons; more balanced and better fit. Our core 3 improved so the gap between Harden-Howard-Ariza is closer to Durant-Westbrook-Ibaka.

Now we just need to get our bench set right and we will be set.

Get back to me when one of them comes down with an injury or gets sick.

We need one more proven elite player. I agree with Morey. While we don't have that guy yet, see if anyone else will emerge from our youngsters/role players.

We do need a 3rd star, and good role players.
It will be interesting how Harden and Howard adjust to the new team for now.

For the record, I never considered Parsons as the 3rd star.

That might be important in a 3-on-3 tournament.

This starting five could do it ..... with a solid bench .... But I cant see them going on a deep run with this bench full of scrubs and rejects. (UDFA's & 2nd rounders).

Word! This is on point. Even with the best player in the league, LeBron James, they needed three stars to get it done. At this point unless Howard turns into a prime Hakeem, or Harden magically turns into MJ, we have to be in the hunt for a 3rd star.

No , we don't have to be in the hunt for a 3rd star. We could spend that $$ on stronger players surrounding Harden & Howard rather than players with significant flaws (Lin - Turnover machine , Asik - Offensively challenged).

What's needed is complimentary pieces without significant flaws , they don't have to be stars or superstars , they just cant hurt you. Lin is a prime example , some nights he's great , the next he's got 6 TO's.

Consistent play from those around Howard & Harden would make this team a contender.

The difference between what the Rockets had last year and those players on the Spurs was that the Spurs players didn't harm the team when they weren't going great ..... they were consistent if unspectacular.

All too often the Rockets were shooting themselves in the foot ..... missed FT's , untimely turnovers , taking poor shots , cant grab a damn rebound.
