Kobe is at 28.1 a game. Durant is at 27.8 a game with 6 left, and went off for 43 in his last game. Does Durant have a monster game or 2 left in him? No doubt he can and wants to. I've believed since early in the season Kobe wants the scoring title this year very badly. That's why he won't stop shooting even when it kills the Lakers.
First off, Westbrick is shooting a career-high 46.6% from the field, when over the course of his career is a 43.2% shooter. Over his career, Kobe is above 45% from the field. Westbrick didn't stop Durant from winning the last 2 titles because he was averaging 14.8 shots per contest for his career and now is at 19.4 per contest (this season). He's shooting nearly 5 shots more per game this season. To make matters worse, Durant shoots at over an over 50% clip. The two players average the same number of shots per game. Now, knowing these figures, who would you want taking more shots? I think the answer is pretty obvious. The question that was posted wouldn't even be in question if Durant were given more opportunities. Durant would win this hands down.
OKC needs more balance, not less. As we found out in last year's playoffs, they need another option when teams clamp down on KD or he doesn't have it going. The last thing OKC needs is for KD to average 35 pts/game or whatever. Without WB, no way KD would be at 50%. This year (which is the only thing that matters), WB is shooting better than Kobe. He's going up, Kobe is going down. Kobe is the master chucker and takes the most ridiculous shots in the NBA. His crazy shot totals (often at the expense of his team) are why he leads in scoring. If Kobe wants it that bad, fine. But OKC is better off if KD averages 25-27 points and WB, Harden and (eventually) Ibaka soak up the slack. OKC's wins have gone up the last 3 years while KD's average has gone down. See the pattern?
You just explained the point we were getting at to begin with, which is why kd won't win the scoring title. This thread has nothing to do with if westbrick's game is good or bad for the thunder, but if is good or bad for kd's shot at the scoring title.
Where are you getting this from? Durant took 1538 shots last year in 78 games. That comes out to an average of over 19.7 shots per game. This year, Durant has taken 1168 shots in 60 games. That comes out to an average of 19.4 shots per game. If you are going to come to a board an make certain assertions at least have the facts to back it up. Unless of course you never passed elementary algebra...then my bad?
The question on this thread as absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Westbrook's exploits are in the best interests of the team. The simple question is whether or not Durant can catch Kobe for the scoring title. As you were alluding to, Kobe is a "master chucker", therefore, with Durant's shot attempts going down as a result of Wesbtrook jacking up more shots, Durant will NOT win the scoring title this year. I'm just baffled by how such simple logic is misunderstood.
