Moreyball had the right idea, but the bolded part above is where Morey dropped the ball. The Rockets' personnel doesn't match its strategy. Inability to shut down the 3 on the defensive side is on poor coaching and reflects a lack of interfacing between the GM and coaching staff.

So be good at shooting 3s and stop your opponents from scoring? Why didn't we think of that? Ugh. Let me call Murrie.

Why didn't any team think of that? Call up all GMs in your contacts so they can all go undefeated.

Kerr has used analytics to help make their offensive system more efficient. They have strong principles and versatile players.

On defense, that versatility means they can switch without incurring a heavy penalty for doing so. It is just a well put together team. Of course they endured a fair bit of sucking that allowed them the opportunity to draft their core players, before they made moves to round out the team.

The article is specifically talking about 3-pt defense and the impact of that. The Warriors aren't necessarily stopping people from scoring in general - they are specifically eliminating the opponents' most efficient scoring method.

I'll say this again: Ron Adams is the best defensive coach in the NBA.

The Warriors are breaking the NBA and the Rockets are breaking our hearts... *sigh* I'm not even keeping up with the NBA as much due to our team being a laughing stock. Maybe this time by next month we'll have something to look forward to if this team can get their collective heads out of their asses.

FiveThirtyEight ranked the Warriors the #1 team coming into last year season when most everyone ranked the Warriors #5 or #6 team in the West and ranked Spurs the #1 team.

Yeah that's great, but they have a significant advantage over the rest of the league in terms of contracts. Curry is the 51st highest paid and Igoudoula signed for significantly less than he could have elsewhere. But they have drafted very well, you have to give them that.

yes and they also made tens of other wrong predictions that year. If you throw enough **** at a wall something will come true. No matter if you name it a "analytical model" or whatever.

Warriors' gameplan is to get more open 3s
Rockets' gameplan is to shoot more 3s

They turned on "god mode." Not even fair right now. That's what a TEAM looks like.

Seems like the Rockets should build their team to win when the Warriors team breaks up. Curry/Klay/Barnes/Iggy/Green/Bogut. They can't keep all 6 of those guys long term, can they?

They've staggered the contracts such that I think that core can stay together another two years before Curry gets paid.

Malakas - .538 is pretty good with their predictions but they are just that - predictions. When they're wrong, they're as wrong as everyone else, but it's interesting to read the method behind their madness, as it approaches the inherent uncertainty of sports in a methodical fashion

I don't pay attention much to any prediction from anyone, so I can't argue much here. The reason I remember them predicting warrior as #1 is because it was out of the norm and so it stands out.

As for tens of other wrong... that happen every years with every prediction and hence, I don't pay attention to any. If you call them toilet quality, that's fine if you group the others in the same toilet. But my guess is they are probably better at predictions since they at least uses some statistic models whereas the others are just opinions from their broadcasters.

Also, no one can predict unpredictable events (such as injuries).... well, at least not yet.

It doesn't have to do with injuries. They first of all had the projections of this year NOT adjusted for strength of shedule and the total of wins were more than the total wins allowed. Then take a look a their CARMELO little project to see how they project players. (based on these projections is how they make their predictions). They are trully trash for easy clicks.
Even tho I disagree with some others, I respect them like the NylonCalculus' ones.
