Bridgewater wins Pepsi Rookie of the Year award http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...idgewater-wins-pepsi-rookie-of-the-year-award Teddy Bridgewater has been named the 2014 Pepsi NFL Rookie Of The Year, Pepsi and the NFL announced Friday night. The Vikings quarterback was recognized during Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX festivities in Arizona, as well as online at nfl.com/rookies. Bridgewater passed for 2,919 yards and 14 touchdowns in 13 games after being selected 32nd in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Vikings were 6-7 in his starts, with victories over the Falcons, Panthers and Bears among others. The former Louisville product was one of five finalists up to receive the honor. The other finalists were Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans, Bengals running back Jeremy Hill and Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins. The five finalists were selected for their outstanding performances throughout the season. Each week, five nominees were chosen for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week and fans voted for the winner on NFL.com. Those results were used to help determine the finalists Most of his production came after he took over the starting role for injured quarterback Matt Cassel. Bridgewater started 12 games, posting a 64.4 completion percentage while breaking 91 franchise records. The Associated Press also releases a rookie of the year winner sometime after the Super Bowl, where again Bridgewater should factor. So too will be other Pepsi Rookie of the Year nominees. Bridgewater, according to Vikings.com, said he would have voted for his competition. "If I had to vote, I would vote for Odell Beckham," Bridgewater said. "He had a great season this year. What he was able to do in those 12 games was pretty remarkable. He's a spectacular athlete, but honestly, I voted for all those guys. You get to vote. It's a fan vote. We appreciate the fans. They make it happen. I was able to win the (Pepsi Rookie of the Week) award two times this year, and it's all the fans voting and the support system we have. It can go either way.
Lol. Really hope Mallett shows us something. How the media freaked teams out enough to let this kid fall into the end of Rd 1 is crazy. Let's hope we find Teddy v2.0 this year in Rd 2.

What crow? He's Alex Smith 2.0, let's wait till he actually does something or has a good season to start trying to pass around crow.
Damn, given the fact that ALL of our picks were (atleast right now) busts it makes it look even worse that we didnt trade down to get him. I just want a real QB.
Don't really have a dog in this fight, but as best as I can tell the only ROY award he won was some silly contrived Pepsi online fan vote that's only been around for 10 years or so. The AP (which the NFL considers the "official" award) and the PFWA both chose Beckham.
He does look like the best QB out of that draft class, at least right now. Weather he continues to progress and becomes a legitimate QB is still yet to be seen. I think in hindsight we would have been a better team if we traded down to get him. Given almost none of our picks contributed in any way.
I think there's a decent chance that he ends up as the best QB of the class, but it was a terrible QB class. The good news for the NFL is that it seems like teams are getting smarter for the most part, there were only 2 reaches on a QB in Bortles (shouldn't have been drafted in the top 15-20) and Manziel (shouldn't have been drafted before the 4th round)
well put. If nothing else at least texans fans would have some reason for optimism at the QB position. Meanwhile, we are putting our hopes into Mallet, Savage and/or FA scraps. Granted, I did actually think Savage looked ok given his situation.
Carr has another year to develop under an entirely new system with hopefully an upgraded backfield and receiver corps, Bridgewater mostly the same sans the new regime, and Bortles will be given a longer rope because of the investment but he also desperately needs weapons around him. Carr had pretty good protection resulting in low sack numbers but his piss poor receivers could barely beat coverage, which lead to him zeroing in on James Jones far too often. His arm strength and accuracy are impressive but there were times he played like a rookie. I think Carr and Bridgewater will develop into above average QBs at best but I think they both proved they have the tools to get there. Bortles is maybe still too early to tell but he looked pretty horrible most of the year.
In today's NFL, Alex Smith is practically paid franchise money. Is there anyone else currently on the roster right now better than Alex Smith? Do the Texans have a shot at anyone in this draft that is projected to be better than Alex Smith? If Alex Smith was the QB of this team, they would have made the playoffs. Alex Smith 2.0 on a rookie contract allows you to spend money to improve other areas of the team. Alex Smith 2.0 is still greater than Filo, C.J., and Nix combined. At some point you have to have a QB you can rely upon or at least has Alex Smith upside. Who on the roster today fits either of those criteria and who did we draft that has more upside? At the relative cheap price the Vikings paid, they did far better for themselves than the Texans. Missing on a QB today in the early rounds, especially at the back end of the early rounds, is not a franchise killer. Instead, the Texans wouldn't draft Carr and got outdone trying to get either Teddy or Jimmy. I'm not advocating a QB with the first round pick but it needs to be addressed early in this draft.
