LeBron James is possibly the best all around player in NBA history. There has not been a single thing that he has tried to do well that he has failed at.
IMO Melo is rated and reguarded exactly where he should be. And I agree with whoever said CP3 gets too much of a pass, I think he's vastly overrated
Playoff success is based as much on luck and team strength than on the individual itself so I dunno why you use team accomplishments to trump Melo up, where exactly did Melo lead NYC last year on one of the easiest conferences ever? Sure he's definitely a star and one of the most talented players in the NBA, but given his salary and different priorities the only time you'd want him as a main man is if you have someone like Wade or Lebron around to keep him focused and motivated. He came in as a dynamic post scorer who has bad defense, streaky 3 pt shot, and he likes to shoot mid-range J's to avoid contact just like Rudy Gay. Fast forward 10 years and he's still the same guy with the same strengths and weaknesses, compare his improvement to Lebron or KD to see the wide gulf that separates him from the real superstars in the league, Lebron started out with a broken jumper and by year 3 he was already a better 3 pt shooter than Melo. P.S. He didn't "lead" the Nuggets anywhere, just look at how that team imploded when they traded Billups for Iverson, Billups was the real heart of that team when Melo left the coach and Kenyon Martin accused Melo of being selfish and jacking up way too many shots.
Melo is going to deteriorate in the near future, he knows it. At his best he wasn't anywhere close to Lebron I acknowledge him as a bona fide 3 point chucker, rebounder and scorer but not the most complete player.
He was pretty dumb in college: According to Jim Boeheim, Carmelo Anthony was…not smart in the classroom Carmelo Anthony was outstanding in his lone basketball season at Syracuse, leading the Orange to a national title in 2003. From the New York Daily News: In “Bleeding Orange,” the Knicks star’s former coach at Syracuse reveals Anthony’s grades for the first semester of his lone year (2002-03) at the upstate university. He made four C’s and one D that fall before leading the Orange to the NCAA championship in the spring and bolting straight to the NBA. “Maybe if we hadn’t won the title, he would’ve come back,” Boeheim writes, according to multiple reports. “I honestly don’t know, and I don’t think Carmelo knows. Carmelo did his work, went to class and never gave us any trouble. He made four C’s and a D in his first semester, and if anyone wants to roll his eyes at that, plenty of freshmen who aren’t carrying a basketball team on their back do a lot worse.” http://fansided.com/2014/10/09/jim-boeheim-carmelo-anthony-got-four-cs-d-first-semester-syracuse/
To be fair basketball probably took up all his time. It is hard to study when you are constantly playing ball. Also I get the feeling he didn't cheat, which is respectable. Athletes at other universities have been caught cheating to get good grades ... Duke I believe had a scandal.
Honestly, I wouldn't call it dumb...in my opinion his priorities were completely in line. Why does it matter what he gets in his intro classes. He's not going after a degree...he's staying for one year and leaving. I wouldn't care either.
Hell if he actually showed up and earned those Cs he's doing better than a lot of "student" athletes.
Never was much of a Melo fan. The guy doesn't understand that at his position he has to lead the team. The kind of iso ball he is playing will not drag the team to achievements. NY players are not bad at all. Melo simply does not lit them up.
