This has got to be the nail in the coffin for gambling on injury-suspect big men.

Who am I kidding, of course it won't.

Did Yao have foot problems before being drafted or was that after JVG and the CNT drilled his foot with no rest?

I have a hard time calling any GM who is knowingly and actively using tanking strategies a "terrific" GM, vs just one using tanking to improve via the draft.

Hell, you could take over a tanking team and produce as well. That is to say, measuring a GM by draft only (especially one who is tanking into top picks) is shy of the complete view of a "terrific GM." It completely ignores the terrificness of GM to negotiate with other teams and player agents to make Trades and do Free Agency.

The Draft is something that does not require any negotiating skills at all...just player evaluation skills in a less than perfect world of speculation. Terrific GMs negotiate with current players and teams, too.

his theory is solid but really only works by nailing your draft picks, has he done that, can't really think has hit one out of the park yet?

so out those picks you listed, right now he has Noel and a rookie yet to play a game in Okafor..... for three years of serious tanking and stockpiling picks....do either of them lead you to the playoffs, who knows, even more interesting is how do those two play together in the modern NBA of small ball....

but of course he has so many more future assets, aren't they marvellous pieces of unknowness (and time and losing for fans) and more opportunity to nail those draft picks, at some point he has to cash them in and get the picks right and then also start spending some money while his picks are still on rookie deals

McDaniels is gone, Saric is at least another year away, some say another year after that (if he waits till then he will be able to sign for anything instead of a rookie) so two more years before he sees value in that pick, Embiid was drafted with a busted foot is a complete sunk asset right now, and again another big guy....

maybe Saric will come over in two years and by then maybe he will have nailed his next two 1st round picks, plus next year likely has a lakers, heat and thunder pick, so really this time next year they could have Okafor, Noel, Embiid and 3 first round pick rookies (and if they get lucky Saric for cheap).... so much unknown in the future, but the results of past 3 draft are really meh!!

as a comparison Orlando over the past 3 drafts has Oladipo, Gordon, Peyton and Mario H, and the Twolves (everyone's punching bag) has Shabazz, Georgi, LaVine and Towns

I so want it to work and soon, but he has to get those picks right

One, Embiid isn't hurting the Sixers long-term situation. They've been keeping their salary burden low and his deal isn't curtailing their flexibility at all. By the time the salary cap matters to them, they can be out from under his contract (if they so choose). Two, the Sixers chose to draft him despite his injury situation. It'd be one thing if he was healthy before the draft, or lied about his situation. But the Sixers knew and took him anyway. It's all on them if it doesn't work.

I don't really agree with this, whats the point of drafti g guys if you arent gonna keep them? Noels is a great pick, MCW and KD were good too but the Sixerd traded them for chump change. I dont think Embiid was consensus top 3 after his injury. Okafor looks like a bust or extremely overated. More inportantly picking guys at the same spot time after time reminds me a lot of Kahn picking Rubio and Flynn in the same drsft.

If you judge the Sixers right now, they've had 5 lottery picks and the team still looks like crap, Noels is really the only promising guy they have, Saric and Okafor have rock bottom values right now.

I think the Sixers sold high on MCW like they should have. His game is limited with his completely broken shot and high turnovers. Milwaukee was worse with him instead of Knight. Plus, we'll have to see what Philly does with that pick they received (top 5 protected from LAL) before we can really declare a winner.

Noel is solid. Embiid turned out to be a bad gamble. Jury is still out on Okafor and, obviously, Saric.

I think Philly really wanted and needed Russell in this past draft, but oh well. If Okafor turns out to be Al Jefferson-esque, that's not so bad, and it's a nice pairing with Noel in the front court.

Reason #434429 why you can't go full tank every damn year for prospects. There are no sure things. I respect Morey for never going full tank.

The mouse on a treadmill thinks he's making progress to his destination until finally realizing he's going nowhere.

When will the Sixers actually turn the corner by showing results? When will they have 3 or more players on their team that are worth a current (and not future) dime?

Now that he's back he looks like a future star. Worth the waiting.

What round do you think he'd be worth taking in a fantasy draft?

He may be one of the best centers in the league this year (in fantasy leagues), so figure out. He shoots from behind the arc, can easily grab 10 rebounds per game & block 2 shots. Free-throws should be around 70-80% & FG around 60%, great numbers for a big men. Injuries is the only concern...

They have said his minutes would be limited though and won't play back to backs.
