    Article:

As I've stated before, the tide is turning on Israel. It used to be that these actions would increase public support for Israel because they could and would dominate the information everyone received. Today that has changed, and the pattern of attacks is starting to change something. In the 10 years I've been closely following this, I've not seen this amount - albeit still not near a majority - of "Western" governments speaking out against Israel.

Part of this is that Israel's has gotten more and more brutal each time, while Hamas has barely changed anything. The biggest change for Hamas has been the distance of its attacks, but all in all they have thankfully failed to harm any significant number of Israeli civilians. At last count I think there have been 15 unfortunate civilian Israeli deaths, while there have been over 800 unfortunate civilian deaths in Gaza alone 300 of which are children. A school where Israelis told Gazans to seek shelter was attacked with civilians inside. A school which the UN communicated to Israel was filled with civilians and was annihilated with civilians inside. At some point, no amount of propaganda or rhetoric from either side is going to allow humans with a conscience to accept this outcome.

Spain has frozen arms exports to Israel. Britain is reviewing its arms export licenses with them (which is INCREDIBLE given Cameron is the PM). Ban Ki Moon has called the actions from both sides "criminal". The French foreign minister has been critical of both sides. The Latin American countries have almost unanimously shown their outrage for this mess.

What's going is a swing in the correct direction. Hamas has continued to behave violently and at the same time the Israeli government has become more and more extremist and violent. The one side which Western governments thought they could trust is becoming just like the violent extremist civilian militia of the other side.

What's become clear to ME personally based on these events and these NSA leaks is this: there is a real possibility that we end up with a peaceful and trustworthy Israeli government AND put the fate of Palestinians in the hands of groups committed to peace and security but the only thing in the way of that happening is the involvement of the US, as Jon Stewart so brilliantly put it, as the drug dealer of the Israeli government and the rehab advisor of Israel and Palestinians. If you are interested in a genuine peace in this conflict, with two nations existing side by side and civilians able to move on with security and most importantly without PTSD from the constant fear being pumped into them.... then you must communicate to your representatives that they remove themselves from this comical and tragic role they've been assuming.

This is going to go exactly as it has gone in the past. The representatives and the media will pump you with fear while the international community and affected civilians - like in S Africa, Indonesia, and other places - will continue to move towards peace and justice. And like in S Africa and Indonesia and Egypt, the US government will continue to function as an obstacle to peace and justice by acting like it cares about peace and justice. And like in S Africa and Indonesia and Egypt and Vietnam, those representatives will cling on till the last moment for every campaign dollar and for every barrel of oil and for every strategic war chest until it becomes inevitably clear that they can no longer push the agenda. At that point, your representatives typically give in and act like they were on board all along. But the resentment remains. People don't forget. You won't get the tax dollars back.

Once. For once, make a push to get what I know Americans want: to be the leaders and frontrunners of peace, rather than the leachers and obstacles to peace at the tail-end of violence.

Don't indulge him. There are plenty of posters on this board who support Israel on the basis that they have to defend themselves or they're left with no alternatives and they disagree with everyone else with good arguments.

bobmarley does't fall into that category, he is either one of those brainwashed evangelicals who believe that Israel must succeed for Jesus to return OR he's one of those extremist undercover paid propagandists for Israel. This guy makes ATW look like a centrist.

More importantly he wants to divert the attention of people on both sides of the argument away from any rational debate and discussion. There is no other way to look at it, when someone thinks that doing what's "right" ends up killing Palestinian and Israeli civilians.

Do not indulge. Instead, spend some time making rational arguments with people who disagree with you who also support their ideas with facts and well-rounded opinions.

Israel is defending itself and it is good that the free world stands with Israel, no matter how desperately fanatical Islamist demagogues such as Mathloom, adeelsiddiqui and others are trying to spread propaganda.

By the way, Mathloom, do you have any intelligence on support from the Gulf region for ISIS?
