http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/24/the-walking-dead-episode-1-review/ Joystiq gave it 4/5 stars, and so far other review sites are viewing it pretty favorably (85% from IGN). I let my girlfriend play a bit while I watched (she loves the comics), and I really like what they did with it. Granted we're not too far in (maybe 30 minutes), but from what I saw each zombie encounter has weight to it. It isn't just "oh boom, I headshotted another monster...peace"; they're rather intense. When there is gore...there is gore. There's definitely adult conversation, and I like that in future episodes it's supposed to take your actions into account. The artistic style looks very similar to the comic as well (very well done cel shading). All in all I recommend it; it's $25 for all 5 episodes on steam right now. Naturally only Episode 1 is out right now.
I agree with the first comment on the link....I'll wait for the inclusive pack and not spend $25 on each chapter.
It's $25 for all 5 episodes, not $25 each. Mind you this is on PC, as for as XBL or PS3 I think they're just charging the $5 per episode.
It isn't the same story of the comic, it is kind of a spinoff. It is from the perspective of characters from the comic that weren't previously fleshed out.
Played a bit further; there's not a lot of action to speak of but the game is very intense. You have to make tough choices, and you have a very finite amount of time to do it. It's very good. Also, I found out on XBL and PSN it's actually going to be $5. The Joystiq article had a typo on it, so for XBL it's 400MS points instead of the listed 500.
The controls still need some work. Having to aim with the right analog and then press x or whatever button can make it a pain. I can only imagine when you have to do it really fast. It is fun though or maybe I can just switch the controls.
Great game. I like the approach they took to the game. Not just a mindless zombie shooter but more story and decision based game.
Finally finished the first episode last night. Like I said before I definitely like the weight behind each zombie encounter. It's the first game I've played in awhile that was actually "scary".
bought the pack for 20. Annoyed with some of the things with the game... why the hell can't he run? Not bad though when do the other episodes come out?
Downloaded the game on PS3 today. Haven't gotten far but I like it so far. I like the fact that the game is based on your decisions and input and its not just non stop shooting which I do not like. I really like the story. Like someone mentioned, I wish you can make the character walk faster or run. Also, I think it is kind of difficult to select objects especially in a hurry.
Probably later this month. Spoiler I believe he walks slowly due the leg injury he sustains at the beginning. My biggest gripe so far is there are a lot of places where it tells you to do one thing, but you can't yet do it for one reason or another (and the game doesn't make that clear).
