They tried to ride it out but couldn't I guess. This from the nytimes probably didn't help. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/29/s...stic-violence-remarks-put-espn-in-a-bind.html I don't understand why they don't just fire him again.
This is ridiculous. Anyone who watched that episode of First Take knows that he didn't mean the way many women have taken it. All he did was choose the wrong words. Beadle made it a big deal when she tweeted something along the lines of "Wearing a skirt today hopefully I don't provoke someone to hit me".
I don't think he necessarily said anything in that quote. He didn't blame a woman for being hit. My read of what he said is to just try and avoid the situation when you can and I don't see anything wrong with that. Maybe there is more to it, I don't know.
Given the situation he is talking about, he kind of suggested that if a man beats up his, then there was something the wife could have done to prevent the situation happening. That's not a wonderful comment.
He made two distinct categories: First was that some men are just going to beat up women and there is nothing to be done about that. His other category was men who are provoked into beating up women and that women should do what they can to not provoke these men. Some of you guys should listen to his original comments again. Then read this http://www.phillymag.com/news/2014/07/29/stephen-a-smith-domestic-violence-ray-rice-suspension/
What he said was f***** stupid, but then again it is Stephen A. He and skip have teamed up to take ESPN to the very bottom.
How many of us have seen that one scallywag trying to get her boyfriend to swing by screaming and carrying on even following him to get a reaction? no one? OK, I'll see myself out.
How do you "kind of suggest" something? I took it as him telling women they need to look out for themselves. Who knows... and it really shouldn't have been discussed on First Take anyway. We don't know all the specifics of the Ray Rice situation.
He's not completely wrong. There are women out there who are crazy, just as well. You know which ones will beat on you on the spot, for calling them the wrong thing. The only difference is, those women have to be more selective and pick guys who they think won't react.
and whats wrong with that? If someone keeps provoking you man or woman they are going to get whats coming to them. I am not saying its ok to hit women but certain circumstances call for it
