LOL, you think that cop acting like a dick "really scares people"? C'mon man, that cop was wrong for his actions and he should probably lose his job, but do you honestly think people are "scared" by that?

People predisposed to hating cops will see that and say "See, I told you we should hate cops", but that's not the same as being "scared"

You know........ this isn't something to joke about.

These are supposed to be PROFESSIONALS.

There is something that is really missing in modern culture, especially in the United States and that is EMPATHY. Religion aside, Pope Francis is right; be empathetic and have personal responsibility.

The one's that act like professionals almost never get any press at all, it's only the few that act badly or are in situations that can be spun that way.

Exactly, the expectation is that cops will do what they are supposed to do and will do nice things for people.....but when all you see in the news is the exceptions or situations that are spun to look like an exception, it makes some start to assume that they are all like that. Basically those who have their world perspective shaped by the news (which is sad) will think basically whatever narrative they run with.

If the homeless guy was throwing peanuts at the cop he'd risk getting shot for assault with a salted weapon.

This is a stretch. The homeless man wanted the food. He didn't seem to be complaining about the police trying to toss a peanut in his mouth. Nobody forced him to eat the peanuts on the floor. Who here would actually hand feed a stranger, much less a poor hygienic homeless man?

It is about viewing someone as having dignity and being a human being. I don't want someone having the authority to mediate or police if they do not view the people in their community as human.

When you strip all that away, you get **** like Gitmo torture photographs, and police brutality and any number of negative consequences.

For some reason the name Halpin sounds really familiar. Has that guy been in hot water before?

The problem is that a cop acting like a dick could ruin someone's life.

Great power and great responsibility and all that.

    There's so many stupid cops.

one time when my boy was 5 years old and we were at sweet tomato resto, there was a couple of white cops beside our table and my son kept glancing at the cop's gun. the idiot cop angrily asked me to tell my son to stop looking.

he's lucky there was no iphone at that time.

The cops didn't have to give him any food while he's in booking. So they are compassionate in that sense.

The homeless man is handcuffed as well. How else would you suggest someone feed him? I'm not putting my hands near anyone's mucosal tissue for fear of infected and unhygienic bodily fluids. That's not viewing him as less than human, that's viewing him as human.

And again, the police did not force him to eat those peanuts that fell on the ground. Maybe they could've put some peanuts on a napkin for him to eat off the chair. He'd still have to get on his knees to eat those, and the PC crowd would still be in an uproar unless someone spoon fed him.
