Kirilinko would be an upgrade at power forward even if he's playing out of position. Rather have him over Brewer.

    lol

Well said and in agreement to a point but I believe that this smoothing also means less places a player can choose to play and thus limits his desirable destinations. A contending team with an increase in salary becomes a great place for a FA to come play.

Also not long ago the players union was insisting on an percentage increase of the profits. That is not chump change to players so why agree to smoothing when several other factors make it unpleasant?

The article has been updated to account for Beverley (likely) getting a higher qualifying offer due to meeting the "starter criteria" under the CBA.

The Rockets' available cap room (given all the assumptions in the article) would go down from $8.7 million to less than $7.2 million.

Looks like there will be no cap smoothing.

So that means teams can offer 3 super max contracts now? (If that happens)

Pretty much. His next contract should start at about 20 mil i believe. Meaning we need to be at about 68 million heading into that summer. Even if dwight accepts his player option we will be at only 58 million. I guess it depends on what happens with bev, brewer, and smith.

Next Summer is going to be INSANE. If the Rockets make bets on free agency and strike out it could be detrimental.

That being said, punting on free agency and going into contract absorption through trade mode could be a sneaky advantage of waiting out the frenzy next Summer and holding onto a boatload of cap space.

Needless to say, next Summer will reshape not just a couple teams, but the NBA as a whole.

How surprising that the Lakers and Knicks were mentioned in this article.

Locking in multi year deals now at even slightly above market value this summer could be advantageous. Frees up more space come 2016 to put together a better roster. Maybe rookie deals and 2nd rounders in this years draft will be higher values since their already suppressed market value salaries will be an even better bargain after 2016.

Looks like we are going to see some inflation for mid tier players. It will be harder to find the Corey Brewers of the league that Morey values so much.

Thinking further on that thought, we will have more money to spend on mid tier players so the inflation isn't really a negative (except for Les). However, if rookie contracts stay at the same rate, then it will make rookie contract players far more valuable.

The possibility of another lockout in 2017 has me concerned.

So should we look for more Parsons type of contracts in this summer?

We can get three max players under the current deal, if the cap goes up to 88 million dollars, we could conceivably get FOUR max caliber players.

If we go into this offseason, we don't resign anybody, and trade away Trevor Ariza for cap space, we could offer Kevin Love a four year, 78 million dollar deal, starting at 18 million in year one. Assuming we fill out the roster with vet min guys and sign no other long term deals, we can strike again in the 2016 offseason.

In the 2016 offseason, Dwight has a player option. If you could convince Dwight to opt out of his 23 million dollar deal and sign a 4 year 61m dollar deal instead, we could have the 30 million dollars in cap space to sign Kevin Durant to his max contract.

A Harden, Durant, Love, Howard core is possible. Unlikely, but possible.
