And that is why the Rockets run the R&R. With the standard DDMO to create driving lines for Harden. The Rockets rarely run set plays. They rely on individual player reads and the decisions they make. If the ball is moving the Rockets offense is incredibly unpredictable. The physics of defenses covering the 3 point shot are much more difficult than covering the mid-ranged jumper. There will always be more space for an offense to operate 22 feet from the basket. Longer distances to travel. More territory to guard. Defensive switches become a nightmare, because a pass travels so much quicker than a player. At 12 feet from the basket an offensive player will have several defenders within 7 feet of him. At 22 feet he has at most one.
Because of the injuries, a bunch a bad players that are really not NBA quality are having to play (Dorsey, Kpap, Black, Garcia, Dorsey, etc.) I like Kpap in the beginning but he really doesn't look like he is that good. Seems like Morey could have done better with the bench then he did. Can't afford to continue to have this many bad players on a roster and expect to compete in the West.
Yank three starters off of any NBA team and they are going to be miserable. There goes 40% of the payroll. Say goodbye! The Griz were miserable without Gasol last season. Just one player.
Injuries happen in the league. Grizz don't have a top 10 player on their roster so losing Gasol would hurt them more. We still have Harden (knock on wood). But complete garbage is having to play for the Rox right now and the Rox can't survive unless some upgrades occur.
Kpap should be like your 9th rotation guy. Morey willing to waste this year to see if we can score a third star. Stupid.
Actually Howard is 38% of the payroll. The Griz have more money to spread around to secondary players. I would argue that it hurts Houston much much more.
That's the damn problem with Morey. I'm sure he's a smart guy, but he may be too smart for his own good. While he's waiting for cap flexibility and trying to build a dream team, he's wasting the last years of Howard's prime and there's no guarantee Harden will stay here if the Rox continue to flame out in the first round because they have a flawed roster and system. You can't p***y foot around in the West. You just can't. Building a good, deep team was the way to go especially when it became obvious Bosh wasn't coming here. Being deep has been San Antonio's saving grace in Duncan's later years.
Get bench for what? Another 4 seed? So we can lose by 10 tonight instead of 17? If the best the Rockets can get right now are 2 bench players like Brewer or Bass, I would also wait. Seriously, the Rockets are not going to beat anyone in the playoffs with Corey Brewer.
I don't believe adding 2 players the quality of Corey Brewer to this team, plus fully healthy Dwight/Harden, can win a title. Is that somehow a shocking opinion?
Add a Dragic, R. Allen, J. O'Neil to this team and you can win a title and still have cap flexibility.
Great point. Adding these players and subtracting some of the roster filler Morey has put on this team would definitely make this team a contender along with Howard and Harden.
Adding a 3rd star with Howard and harden, surrounded by ****ty role players might not even get you past the first in the WC. You need a system and you need depth in the postseason. This shouldn't even be an argument at this point.
Landry, artest, Scola, and Brooks, surrounding 1 star in Yao was good enough to get to the finals had it not been for injuries. Heck, they rolled over the blazers who boasted Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Batum etc. They went into the staples (swept during the RS) and stole one away. Who knows what could have happened had Yao been healthy? Look at the Kobe and Shaq teams. Both players were far better than H&H, but still had a GREAT supporting cast.
