Kind of weird and creepy to say someone's career has been "cut short" when they are still playing. In the case of Yao, it would be much more appropriate to characterize his career as being "hampered" or even "plagued by" injuries. "Cut short" implies a finality we cannot yet assume.
That list is horrid. Most of those players are still playing. Off the top of my head: Len Bias Ralph Sampson
its a bit early on Yao he can still have a few very good/productive years i think Penny and Hill were the most tragic in recent (past 20 years) years if all time how Bill Walton is not #1 is beyond me
How about Maurice Stokes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Stokes The man averaged 16 pts, 17 rbs, 5 asts in his 3 year career. He hit his head on the court during a game and became permanently paralyzed days later.

No Sampson, no Walton, no Bias, yet they include SEVEN players who are still playing, and more than a couple of them are producing very well for their age. So horrible.
Kind of a stupid list since many on that list overcame devastating injuries to have solid yet unspectacular careers. Z and Grant Hill are two people in particular that managed to become productive role players after years missing games. And how the hell is Yao number one when the jury is still out on his career? Jay Williams deserves to be on that list because one injury finished his career in one fell swoop. I'm not watching that Livingston video again. I really wish I had never seen it. Some bells can't be unrung.
That sucks. Tracy, his career is most likely done. Though, it would be cool to see him return to proper form. Yao on the other hand, he still has a chance to stick it to lady luck and all his past injuries. Win it all this year, then the team sells their soul to the devil (she'll take it)...and boom...Yao cements a legacy in Houston. :grin:

Quit griping about Bill Walton/Ralph Sampson unless you think they were capable of playing 30+ years in the league.
Well imagine if Yao never got hurt. He'd be putting up monstrous numbers like 25pts/12rebs/2blks per game.
Crummy list indeed. And I see that a lot of people also forget to mention Danny Manning. Great college player, also had a fantastic year in the early 90s but injuries were just nagging him. He spent a decade in the league, but just couldnt fight the injru bug.
