I asked J.A. about the Rox going after Amare Stoudemire in a Sports Nation chat today and this was his response...

I have concerns about Amar'es lack of defensive intensity......but if it was just McGrady's expiring I'd probably do it.

Yao & Amare playing together would be so sweet.

doubt it happens but i would do this:

    tracy and landry

    for

    amare and barbosa

we would be taking back ~ 3 million less in the trade so that helps with the lux tax...it probably will still require cook to be moved though to get the time fully under the tax line

landry would be the better of the two options for the suns..he runs out faster and is more athletic than scola and still has a remaining year at a great price.

barbosa hasnt really played much lately and can be the 'bad contract' but at the SG spot he can give the time a legit SG option.

    brooks/lowry
    barbosa/chase/jt
    ariza/battier/
    amare/scola/hayes
    yao/anderson/hayes

for next year i can live with that

Another combo that sounds good on paper but is doomed to fail. He couldn't co-exist with Shaq, and he has major issues on defense. Combine that with his expensive contract and history of injuries, putting him and Yao together would be a disaster.

I think they would also ask for one of Scola/Landry and dump Babo to us.

Doubtful it would be just for McGrady. Likely say bye to one of the forwards, and maybe former 'cat Budinger? At least one of the forwards they'd ask for back in return.

    This.

No, thanks. I'd rather have the Scola/Landry tandem (even at the combined salaries they'd eventually get) than Stoudemire's childish, no-D playing ass.

    The trade is
McGrady, Lowry, Cook, Dorsey and our first rounder to Philly.

Dally, Taylor, and Scola or Landry to Phoenix

    Iggy/Amare/Speights/Williams to Houston.

No, he's not. But if he gets offered max money somewhere else, we can sign and trade him so he can get true max money and get back some sort of asset in the process.

Exactly. Amare is all about scoring points. I've watched enough Phoenix games to come to the conclusion that he would be a black hole on offense and a big hole on defense.

And he got the ROY over Yao. Dang.

    Agreed........which is why I wouldn't do it.

Too much to give for a one-way player who may bolt at the end of the season.

His defense reminds me of Andersen (ours not the "birdman") but with the occasional shot block.

S&T $20M won't be easy. Off the top of my head recent S&T's seem to involve either cap space or TE's with only a second round pick thrown in.

I'd like to pick up Barbosa by himself. His value should be quite low now so it might be the time to buy. Would they take Ariza or Battier for him?
