Oh brother! Is he going to ban Android stuff too?

I bet he backs off some. This is completely unnecessary bad pub.

My take away is that the team will not be purchasing or using Apple products in an official capacity. No different then any other company deciding that all company owned devices will be Windows based.

I don't see the big deal.

The guy is a major shareholder of Microsoft. He owns the Clippers. He wants his team and his staff to use Microsoft products.

If he was a major shareholder in Coca-Cola would you expect him to allow Pepsi in the building?

The staff can use whatever products they want on their own time, but while they're wearing the Clippers uniform and in the offices and stadium of the Clippers, then Steve Ballmer can approve or ban any work related product he wishes.

i dont see it as bad pub at all. since he took over the team he's been seen as passionate, now loyal (to his old company). two traits i'd want from my favorite teams owner.

does it hurt the clippers any that he's buying new surfaces instead of keeping the ipads for the new season? nope.

Did Paul Allen do the same thing to the Blazers?

Nope, however Paul Allen hasn't been with Microsoft since the year 2000... ie, he's been out of it for 14 years and been pursuing other interests.

Either way, it's the individual owner's decision. If Ballmer feels like he wants to show his loyalty to Microsoft, that's his call. That's what spending $2Bn in cash gets you... the power to do whatever the heck you want.

don't the players prefer apple? I understand his background but I doubt any player will see his decision as a plus

Makes sense because it costs less, and I'm sure he can get a really good exclusive deal with Microsoft. Nothing Apple products can do for a basketball team that would justify paying the higher price.

It just means that official team equipment and tech will be non-Apple based. It doesn't mean players can't use their personal iPhones.

I think he does, that's why it was discontinued like 5 years ago.

No big deal. It is the same for some schools that only have pcs on campus instead Macs in their computer labs. Same holds true for businesses that have only pcs.
