He and 3 others were name assistants under Terry Stotts. http://www.nba.com/hawks/news/Hawks_Name_Four_to_Assistant_C-85048-33.html
Im glad to see Boylen and Mr. Mean get new jobs. They're both great guys and great coaches. The deserve them.
I love how all these Yao only fans are so happy to see Mr. Mean go because they feel he ruined their golden child's rookie year. You guys who just started watching the Rockets need to learn about how hard a worker he was and how he used to get almost twenty rebounds a night during a stretch in the 90-91 season when Hakeem went down to a near career ending injury. We Rockets fans actually like the guy a lot.
I watched the Rockets way before you ... What does getting 20 rebs have to do with being a good coach?
Forget ineptitude. These were good guys all. Good coaches, too, no doubt. However, whyever these guys stopped getting through to their coachees is why the regime changed. I wish the old guys the best, and am rooting for the new guys to pull an early Rudy!
Are you suggesting that being an assistant coach for the Hawks or Warriors is one of the more highly sought after coaching positions in the world of basketball? And that the entire criteria for obtaining these positions is credentials and has nothing to do with the concept of "it's not what you know, but who you know"? Stotts is a sacrificial lamb and Larry Smith is just paving the way for Rudy T to coach the Hawks in 2004-05. You should find that thought as cheery as the hirings of Boylen and Smith.
