Pete Davidson is all the rave this morning after a breakout debut on SNL's 40th season premiere last night. Ar 20 years old he has the look of a young Jim Carey with the cadence of Dave Chappelle. Look out for him this fall on SNL

    Here's his debut last night:

Caught a little bit of SNL last night. I wouldn't say it has gone back to form but it was a lot better than the last I saw it years ago. I think the guy is pretty funny. I don't really get the comparison though.

I laughed way harder at the 2nd standup video than I did the SNL skit. Definitely did not convince me it was time to start tuning in to SNL again.

SNL has, and will always be, hit or miss... its funny that the same people who say the show has fallen off since Wiig/Hader/Samberg/Armisen/Poheller left were the same ones who said the show was done when Ferrell/Fallon/Kattan left... and then before that, Hartmann/Farley/Myers/Carvey... and before that Murray/Ankroyd/Belushi... etc. etc. etc.

Like a sports team, there will always be down seasons based on the talent you have... but every now and then, somebody will come out of nowhere and take over. And it still remains true that every single SNL cast era has produced viable talent that has gone on to have serious post SNL-success.

The same "classic" casts/sketches also had several duds/poor episodes... and it still holds true today.

Luckiest man in probably the whole history of Hollywood, but still humbled enough to be nice about it.

I'm familiar with him from Wild N Out. He was pretty meh and quiet there.

I thought he did a good job. It was an impressive debut for someone so young.

He's "famous" for being depressed, not for being funny. Next?

I'm burned out by the Pete Davidson news coverage everywhere. You would think this guy is Robin Williams with all the coverage he's getting.

He's ditched the drugs, he needs to ditch the social media now.

He wasn’t even meh. He was some combination of high and indifferent. Other than having the benefit of Chappelle/Stewart buzz in the air, he would have bombed massively.

He seemed like he was high or drunk. His jokes were not funny. Who thought the baby thing would be funny.

He has got an incredible opportunity who so many people struggle to get.
