Ya, People aren't exactly thinking when someone is point a gun at you while barking orders. They generally just react to those orders without processing the situation. I had a friend who got pulled over for the first time. He was so nervous, he gave the cop a student ID. If the cop was that worried, he should've asked the guy to put his hands up and clear the truck then make sure there's no weapons present, before asking him to reach for his ID Perhaps we should have public service announcements on what to do when you're pulled over and a minority
Certainly everyone is a bit nervous in this type of situation, both police and civilians. But the police are the trained professionals here, and they should be held to the higher standard. Being 'nervous' is not an excuse to 'shoot first, ask questions later.' If you say you would have shot the guy under the circumstances, then I am glad you are not a police officer. Obviously, the officer involved was fired and is now being prosecuted, so this was not deemed an appropriate reaction to the circumstances.
Other than the fact that he just asked for it, and considering the 99% of other times people have reached into a car at a traffic stop after a police instruction and not pulled out a gun. I cannot ****ing believe you're trying to rationalize this guy nearly getting killed for doing exactly what the officer asked him to.
Well that was completely and entirely unnecessary. He unloaded 5 rounds in a public area, with other people around, near gas pumps. The citizen shouldn't have quickly lunged back towards his vehicle. Still the police reaction was way way overboard. Odd thing is listening to both of them speak afterwards. They both probably would get along fine in a different setting.clearly the officer was overly wired and that is dangerous. Just unreal.
