Patrick Beverley will not be on the court again before hitting free agency. Based on his body of work, what do you think his market value will be? Will the Rockets end up being the team to pay him that market value or will another team sign him to a deal that the Rockets won't want to match? If so, which other team would go after him? Before this season, I thought that Pat would get somewhere near the 4 year, $32M that Avery Bradley got this past summer based on Pat's very effective play in 2013-14. I no longer think so now because he has been slowed by injuries and just hasn't been nearly as effective. He is a defensive specialist who really hasn't defended very well. Could well get back to his prior form if he returns to health, but health is a risk for which a decision maker has to account when making any free agent offer. I think that Pat will get maybe $3M or $4M per year even with the upcoming cap increases. If a team offers Pat more than that, I think the Rockets just let him go.
I voted 2.5-5 mil, and I'd put him at the lower end of that spectrum. I think someone will offer him 5 mil per, but I hope the Rockets pass on that. We need to focus on getting a starting PG this offseason, not worrying about what to pay a backup. Especially one who can't stay healthy.
To Cuban or to the rest of the NBA? I'd say the Avery Bradley contract is about right BEFORE taking into account the new cap. With the new one, who knows.
Ideally, 3 years / 15 million and based like the Ariza contract. Front-loaded and salary decreases every year.
I voted 2.5 - 5. Bev's injury history hurts here. If Bev had been playing well and had limited injuries than as a starter I don't mind 5-7M per, but on this roster where Bev is right now, that would be an overpay.
10M/3 years seems like good value. With the PG glut in the league especially in the west - he wont be able to command the same amount. Plus he is known for his defense which has slipped this season - maybe it was due to the injuries but unfortunately it never seems he can stay healthy. But based on overall body of work I would put him at most 4m/year. I think teams would be willing to take a chance on a first round pick that is a PG with a higher ceiling at that cost. Most teams would sign him for that price to be a back up. I mean bev would be a great backup PG to have for some of the teams out there. He will get a contract for sure.
I would think the offer would be between 2.5-5mil per year, but count on good ol' Cuban to swoop in and offer a near max deal.
Unfortunately, what Beverley is worth in free agency is worth more than what Beverley is worth in terms of role.
Agreed, but I would've said 3-y/9m or 2-y/8m. He's just not a guy that you can invest in long term and/or at anything above a bargain price. Sucks for him because he's definitely the type of guy that you want on your team, but at the same time he's absolutely the type of guy that you sacrifice to maintain flexibility. And personally, I hate the term flexibility. I'm more of a contendiblility type of guy.
what other points guards are available this year? I sort of want to put up a Bev v Lin poll about who gets more this offseason ... would be fun but afraid of igniting a bad fire.
I think 3y/12mill with a team option is the most I'm willing to dish. I can very likely see rondo walking and cuban giving bev a bloated contract To fill that role.
