Dude's not even a player yet. Oh well I guess he's just glad to be able to enter the supplemental draft. link
Calling it a slap on the wrist would be an overstatement. He wasn't going to see the field for 5 weeks anyways. Don't know what the NFL was thinking here. Either don't let him enter the supplemental draft and send that message... or do, and send that message. imo.
what he did was just a violation of the ncaa rules, nothing to do with nfl if im correct. there should be no punishment for somebody who didn't break any rules of the nfl?
The thing is that he was eligible for the last draft but decided to stay in school for his senior season. If he would have declared, we wouldn't be in this situation. However since he chose to stay and got busted, he is trying to get into the NFL. I honestly don't know where I stand on this issue. I don't think the NFL should punish people for things that are not illegal. The NCAA are a bunch of crooks anyway, so I don't like the idea of other leagues going along with their rules.
It sounds like the NFL allowed him to enter the supplemental draft in exchange for the 5 game suspension. They didn't have to allow him in at all, considering his status changed voluntarily and he could have stayed at OSU. The NFL could have simply not allowed him in the draft (which was their right) and essentially given him a 16 game suspension.
I think they had to establish a precedent. He committed to school when it was going to be a 5 game suspension, then bailed for the supplemental draft when he discovered the NCAA was about to can him for the entire year. NFL doesn't want to be the convenient out for guys about to be busted. Looks bad. But they do need to establish a written rule spelling this out. Goodell era is littered with these arbitrary punishments.
Actually, I thought I read somewhere that the NFL made it clear that this case was not going to set precedent for future cases.

3rd round for a 6'6" guy that can run a 4.4 isn't bad. He will most likely be a wide receiver in the pros.
Figures if the Raiders do it he's sure to be a bust, but if say... The Patriots took him it would be "another genius move that could pay off".
No, I'd still think they overbid. To be fair to the Raiders, they didn't have a 4th rounder to spend so if they wanted him, they had to use a 3rd. But in the end, I think he'll be another in the long line of Raiders prospects who put up great measurables but are underwhelming football players.
If the Patriots took him he'd be good. Because they take good players. Because they know. Sucker. Its cool though, him and Hampton Bay can run 40's together. That'll be fun.
