    My virgin thread!

It's the 5th year since Yao entered NBA and became a rocket. But he still has not been OFFICIALLY nicknamed, though he does have several occasional monickers in media or on this board, a non-exhaustive list of which I’m briefly going through as below:

The Dynasty—firstly appeared on NBA.com and also favored by SF3
The Greatwall—Bill Worrell’s favorite reference to Yao
Shanghai Kid—occasionally seen on this board before
The Giant—the most frequently used in Chinese media
Yaozilla—invented by some fan on the board

And Chinese fans have a longer and way more interesting list of nicks for Yao:
Big Angel—Shanghai Sharks fans used to call Yao this
Ming Emperor—there was a dynasty called Ming in China’s history
The Fiend—to his opponents, of course
    Godzilla—you know the movie series
Godfather—the ancient Persian Mani religion was converted into a gang-like organization and also named Ming when entering China
‘Little’ Ming—not to mock Yao’s size, but that ‘Little Ming’ is a very common (also kinda genial) name in Chinese like ‘Tom’ or ‘Jack’ in English
The Dragon King—Dragon is China’s totemic image
Big Yao—as plain as it sounds
Beard Ming—based on Yao’s vow that he would not shave his beard if the Chinese national team didn’t make it to the quarter-final at Athens Games in 2004
    ...

Now, let's unrein our imagination and creativeness to nickname Yao! And hopefully we could make it prevailing and official, and Yao himself could make it sound as outsanding as those like "Air", "Dream", "Cap", "WIlt the Stilt", etc.

Yao doesn't need a nick, his name itself is good and loud enough.

that's interesting.. I didn't know that. I've always wondered why Yao doesn't shave his beard. I actually think he should because he looks kinda weird with his beard because it's not strong enough. he should shave it several times until it grows better then he could keep a beard, do a chin-goatie or whatever he wants. :D

    Your call!

For me, 'Big Angel' sounds the best out of the list, although I've never watched Shanghai Sharks play.

He doesn't need a nickname or it should just be "the Big Wall".

But, I'll nominate TMac's name for him - "Poppy!"

How about "Ming The Sting" abbreviated "MTS" or just "The Sting"
