This is not pretty....so here goes... What does Van Grumpy do to make Yao and T-Mac better offensively? Nothing! Yao looks tougher and bigger, but that's Falsone doing his job, not Ewing or Van Grumpy. Yao seems to be scoring worse and turning the ball over more than last year! And JVG does nothing to inspire him or T-Mac! JVG won't bring in Kareem because he don't want to hurt Ewing's feelings. Rockets management is gonna realize "we got Yao and we got T-Mac, the greatest combo in the league, and we're only scoring 80 friggin points a game?!?!" JVG was brought in to instill discipline after Rudy left. But that was when Steve, Cat and Cato were around goofing off. Basketball IQ was abyssmal. But now we got some more intelligent players. We don't need Van Grumpy the discplinarian anymore. Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Bill Russell, and other centers Yao can relate to have offered their services. And what does Van Grumpy do??? Make Ewing, the most un-Yao like center, coach Yao!! If you ask Yao which NBA center he can relate to the most, you think he's gonna say Ewing?? JVG will say offense wins games but defense wins championships. Yeah yeah, but there are 82 games. Let's try winning some games first, before winning championships? JI know he got close, but JVG hasn't even won a championship. JVG will give us another boring low scoring season. We will all find excuses to like defensive play....while we watch Spurs and T-Wolves in offseason. Yao will be bigger but mediocre and T-Mac will be bored to death and talking about retiring again. Yao will be like Frankenstein, bigger and slower. I miss Rookie Yao! Hopefully this will be Van Grumpy and Ewing's last season with the Rockets.
Good Lord, can we at least wait until the regular season starts before we start all the reactionary and predictable "the sky is fallling" threads after every loss?
Drummer- Are you suprised? You've been here long enough to know how the routine goes. Fire JVG, Fire CD, Yao's a bust, TMac is a ballhog, Steve turns it over too much-whoops.
Offensively JVG has no clue. I think he is a good coach but just not offensively. I also don't think he is the right guy for this crew. Unfortunately, the right one is coaching the lakers.
I guess you're right. In 2012, after the Rox fail to Four-peat, the "Fire JVG" threads will be all over the place.
Can we calm down here. Things will get better and I for one am looking forward to this season. The Rockets will be a force by the end of the season. Look at what the T-Wolves did after bringing in a lot of new players last year. It took them a while to get going and I believe the same will hold true here. You just have to be patient.
Van gundy ruined steve (as a rocket) and It wouldnt catch me off gaurd if he did the same to T-mac. I hope I am wrong but if he were to go right now I dont think I would mind.
and jediknight and Porshe have a whopping combined total of 136 posts !! welcome to the board ladies...
I think the guys that are going to be in the rotation need some time playing together to get a feel for each others strengths and weaknesses. Give em some time. DD
I think Yao still has problems holding da ball. I think TMac will be okay but will be forced to take too much of the offense on himself similiar to Orlando and will become frustrated in a couple months. I think JJ is going to have a difficult time repeating his 2003-04 performance. I think we are going to get killed most nights by the opposing team's power forwards and point guards. I think Van Gundy is too restricting with the offense. I think we should have signed Barry. I think our second team will be mediocre to poor most nights. I think we have a lot better chance of winning a buzzer beater with the ball in TMac's hands than in Francis' hands. I think Boki will be in the regular rotation and will make marked improvement in his shooting and decision making. TMac will be good for him. I think we still have to find a major banger at the 4 who will board like crazy, defend, and can hit the jumper consistently. I think I never want to see Spoon try to execute a 1 on 3 turnaround jumper over 2 7 footers and a pesky guard again. Ever.
It's a brand new bloody team and this is still the preseason. RELAX. Besides, they're right on track for my 25 win prediction.
I have seen this way too many times. It is not easy to get a 4 like this. There are only a few in the league that meet all of these criteria, and I don't think teams are looking to get rid of Duncan, Garnett, O'Neal and Webber. For what we can spend, we really aren't going to get anybody much better than Howard.
I'm not a big fan of the JVG bringing in old NY Knicks to the Rockets. You would think he would want to start w/ a clean slate and new players for his slow azz systems.
