    The NFL Draft

so today is the big day.. t minus 3 hours or so...

I personally can't wait.. i have a feeling we're going to see some stuff totally opposite of whats been reported in the media ad nauseum...

I think its obvious the Raiders are taking Russell.. but the real action will be decided if Detroit stays at number 2, and if they do, what they do with that pick... depending if they take CJ, Quinn, or Adams it could really shake up the rest of the top 10...

Personally I think the Texans are going to bail on their tenth pick, Leon Hall is a decent consolation prize but I just think that this team is more in need of depth than a high roll of the dice..

Would Hall mean more to the team than a late first rounder and second rounder ?

Quinn is going to the Browns. I'd bet my life on it. That is a lock.

no he wouldn't. i think we still might be able to do better than hall at the 10. hall had a good bowl game...i fear that's why he's being so highly touted at this point.

I don't think the Bucs will swap picks with the Lions, but I think we will trade with the Broncos. We would still be able to fill needs at LT, S, WR & RB/DE with 4 picks in the 1st 3 rounds.

FWIW, www.nfldraftcountdown.com has the Broncos/Texans trade going down and the Texans picking up Joe Staley with the 21st pick. It doesn't show which additional picks the Texans will receive, but that would be the perfect 1st round.

Heres an ESPN article to start the draft up
It appears the Oakland Raiders have made their choice, and it's JaMarcus Russell. According to two sources, one with the Raiders and one close to Russell, the team called Russell Friday to inform him he would be the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

The team called Russell on Friday to inform him that he is their player, the sources said. Oakland quietly flew offensive coordinator Greg Knapp to New York on Thursday to meet with Russell and reassure him of his status as the team's preference over Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson and Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn.

The Raiders had tried to leverage the players against one another in contract negotiations. Oakland does not have a deal in place with Russell, as often is the case with team selecting first overall, but the Raiders and Russell's agents, Ethan Lock and Eric Metz, have agreed to negotiate in good faith.

The selection of Russell leaves Johnson, the draft's top player on many team's boards, available when the Lions select second overall. The Lions are then expected to select a receiver in the first round for the fourth time in the past five years. Johnson could perhaps then be dealt to the Buccaneers, who reportedly have been in discussions with the Lions regarding the second pick

As for Quinn, the Cleveland Browns, according to team sources, will, barring a trade, go with Wisconsin tackle Joe Thomas over the Ohio native with the third overall pick.

Quinn is also not expected to be selected by the Minnesota Vikings, who are committed to 2006 second-round pick Tavaris Jackson. Quinn is expected to be on the board at the ninth pick when the quarterback-needy Miami Dolphins are on the clock.

I recommend that everybody start off their day of TV watching with a mid morning Weiss beer - one half of the Bayerisch Fruchstach - preferably of the following (obtainable in the US) varieties:

    First choice:

    Weihenstephaner
    Schneider Weisse
Ayinger Brau Weisse (hard to find)

    Second choice:

    Fransiskaner
    Erdinger
    Paulaner

Oh, and please do yourself a favor and FOREGO THE LEMON. THe Lemon is u nnatural. This is great beer we are talking about. We don't need no stinkiing lemon mucking it up. It's like taking a grape and throwing it into a glass of wine.
