CP3 + any scrub IMO is the best PG duo in the league. But I agree that for 48 minutes of PG production, Dragic+Lowry should be 2nd best. As for keeping both, I just want to make sure the Rockets resign Dragic. Retaining Lowry depends on what we can get for him.
Are there any examples in recent history of teams which have been successful over a longer period of time, playing with two starting quality point guards? Didn't the Clippers play much better with Paul AND Billups? Dragic could play some shooting guard, I think, and Lowry is short, but a bull, he kind of reminds me of Billups anyway. Having both these guys gives us a lot of options on offense, no? And they are both good defenders. Parsons could help defend really tall SG. There are 96 minutes at the PG/SG position. Even with Martin or Lee (preferably), there should be enough minutes in the guard rotation for both of them and a "natural" SG. Let's say we have 14 million to spend at every position on average...if we can get Camby to re-sign for a small amount, I think we could possibly afford re-signing Dragic...especially since we could have the SF position adequately covered for very small money with Parsons (and perhaps Morris as his backup) over the next few years.
That's not really true, else why are Clips behind Lakers, Thunder and Spurs in the West? Fact is you need superstars+depth to win anything in the league. 2 guys+scrubs simply isn't going to get it done.
It's kind of funny that everyone thought McHale would bring the best out of the big men (Hill, Patterson, maybe even Thabeet) when he was signed, but the guys who have really excelled so far are our two point guards .
" Soon the transformation of our rocket point guards will be complete and they can take their place at my side and together we will rule the galaxy as the best tandom in the league".........darth sidious
Dragic needs to start, he plays better as a starter. If we can't promise him that somebody will. Lowry won't be happy going back to the bench either. One has to go, and you can't trade a free agent.
Pretty good summation there. It is not as if we have forgotten how good Lowry is. It is just the fact we don't want to lose a very good player and not get something in return. That would be unacceptable and I bet Morey is trying to be pro-active about the Dragic situation, as in "what can I do to keep this guy".
Only one ball on the court, and it should go to the better player, Dragic. Trade Lowry and let Dragic era begin. DD
Goran is a great off the Ball and has enough length to play and guard the 2. IMHO Goran is a better player then even a healthy Kevin Martin. We have to send out Kevin Martin with a pick to fill another position of need at best or just to dump his salary so we can make Goran the Starting 2/backup 1. Goran is a top 5 combo guard in this league and needs to be retained.
Goran is a PG, he needs the ball in his hands as often as possible, if they somehow manage to keep both he and Lowry, he can play in spurts as the SG, but is not big enough to do it all year. There is only one starting PG position, and Goran has proven he is the better choice - he is bigger, faster, a better passer, and a much better athlete, and can create off the bounce and finishes at 67% at the rim......he has the possibility of being elite. Kyle is also very good, but his upside is what he is now, an aggressive bull in a china shop player - not quite all star level, but top 10 PG in the league. Kyle also has a very good contract for his production, something that will be coveted around the league. The Rockets have to pick one or the other, there is no keeping both option, both want to start, and both have earned it. Keep the best one....Dragic. If you notice, Parsons shooting has come up, Scola's too, because they are playing with Goran who delivers the ball a lot more crisply and gives them more time to shoot in the half court sets than Lowry. There is only one choice, IMO, it is Dragic, Lowry should go in a trade on draft night. DD
I love Goran, but remember when Darren Collison filled in for Paul? He put up numbers close to what Paul was putting up and the team did decent when he started. Collison's stats when Paul went down: 40 mpg 18.8 pts 9.1 asts 4.1 tos 48.5% fg 42.9% 3fg 85.2% ft (on 3.7 attempts per game) 3.5 rpg 1.4 spg
