I didn't want to cram the GARM with another meaningless thread so I dicided to put my idea here. EMANUEL GINOBILI. He will not be resigning with the Spurs next year obviously because of his constant injuries due to international competition. This would be a perfect six man on a Rockets team. His craftiness, IQ, passing and shooting ability are above average and we have something that could convince him to sign a 3 year MLE money type deal (Picture below). Manu and Scola are close friends and love playing with each other. Manu has even said he would love to play with Scola HERE. It's a risk but I have no doubt that if he chose to play for a team he would play here and (maybe) for a discount. It's a risk but he could prove to be a GREAT vet leader option.
The problem is you already have a C in Yao who's injury prone, then your 2nd option is K-Mart who's currently recovering from injury. our top two guys are already injury prone, I'd stay from 30 yr old dudes who are already injured but still continue to play for their international team year after year
He's a playmaker so for the right price I would take a look. One problem I can think of with this idea is this: who closes out games? I'd imagine the plan is to keep Martin out there in crunchtime, only I would never be brave enough to have Manu/Martin out there at once taking up both wing spots. There's really no point acquiring Manu if your plan isn't to utilize his ridiculous 4th quarter playmaking abilities and instincts to your advantage.
I'd offer him the vet minimum to mid in salary range for a 1 year garunteed deal, followed by a 2nd non-garunteed. He'd be great on the 2nd unit, in addition we could trade one of our guys towards STAT/ ( or bosh) and know that he'd fill that guys' role. ( sadly im eyeing battier) AB/Lowry Martin/Manu Ariza/C-Bud Stoudemire/Scola Yao/Hayes/Andersen For stat I'd trade our picks, Battier,JT Jeffries (he'd be attractive as he is expiring coming into next year.),NY draft picks and our rookies possibly.
maybe he is little bit too old, and he is inured prone, but still he is veteran former champion and has great basketball IQ, I would sign for cheap.
If its for the MLE or less you would be stupid not to do it... the fact he can be an annoying flopping douche aside if you don't have to pay him much of course you can do it.. he will be happy to play limited minutes too I am sure, he is a good team player.
Even though poster's are gonna disagree, the perfect six-man can be Aaron Brooks, this guy is a legit scorer to come of the bench(ala Jason Terry former "Six man of the Year"), coming of the bench he doesn't have to create for others as much and can look to focus on his offensive game dropping 20 ppg of the bench.... --RB
for midlevel I would take this guy any day of the week he can even be a point and let brooks play off ball, hes a smart passer, crafty defender, a true vet of the game
Love the idea. He's not playing well right now but I think he's pulling a Robert Horry, his season doesn't start until the playoffs. Ginobili is a great closer, Yao and Martin can get us through 3.5 quarters and Ginobili can take over the last few minutes.
i hate manu, but that is cuz he plays for the spurs. i'm not an idiot, i'll take the talent. get it done morey
Our perfect 6th man next year is going to be Aaron Brooks. Kyle Lowry is going to take the starting job now that Kevin Martin is going to be the starting shooting guard.
