It looks like the Austin CBS affiliate is sticking with the Titans (like they did the second half of last season). KEYE lists the Titans-Jags instead of the Texans-Chiefs on their online schedule. They're also showing the Cowgirls pre-season game over the Texans this coming Thursday. Of course, on the "sports page" of their website they have a "Dallas Cowboys" and a "Houston Texans" section, but no "Tennessee Titans" mentioned anywhere I could see. Welcome to Vinceyoungville, TX... I might have to suck it up and get DirectTV...
well when the Titans are horrible and the Texans start putting together 3-4 wins in a row things will change
Send complaints into KEYE. I've gotten responses from them in the past. I only hope that it's not blacked out from NFL Network. This just infuriates me because KEYE calls themselves "Austin's home for the Texans." It should be "Austin's home for the Texans...only when we're not licking VY's balls."
Thanks for writing to KEYE; we appreciate you taking the time to contact us. Needless to say, the controversy over KEYE airing the Texans or the Titans is already running at full throttle. This year, like last year, KEYE officially chooses its game assignments 12 days out from the date of the game. Again like last year, we will make those decisions as we go through the season. Figuring into each decision is the idea that KEYE should attempt to provide the sports programming that the largest number of people in Austin want to see, and at the same time, we would like to offer programming that supports our in-state sports franchises. Like last year, those two goals are often at odds with each other. One thing we can be sure of is that our decisions either way will unfortunately disappoint a portion of the sports fans in Austin , and we will never please everyone. Looking at the number of people who chose to watch the various games we aired last year, a couple of trends become apparent. The most obvious is that the Titans games were viewed (chosen) by Austin football fans in far greater numbers than the Texans games. The common Texans game last year was chosen for viewing by 33,731 households of the 602,340 households in the metro area. That is 61% less than the number of households watching the common Titans game. In truth, the least-watched game on KEYE all season was when the Texans played the Dolphins on Oct 1st. In that game just 15,000 households tuned in. The second least-watched game of the season was also a Texans game with just 23,000 watching. On the other hand, the least watched Titans game was a throw away on New Years Eve and was watched by almost 36,000 households. On average, Titans games on KEYE last year were viewed by over 56,000 households, with a high over 72,000. Clearly, our wish to support Texas sports franchises is out of line with our desire to please the largest number of local sports fans we can. Our response to this will be as it was last year – that is, to fairly cover both teams as best as we can. We will make our game choices as we go through the season and will publish our choices in the available programming guides. Again, thanks for writing to KEYE, please feel free to contact us at any time. Gary Vinson Programming / Research Director 10700 Metric Blvd Austin Texas 78758gavinson@keyetv.com
thats right bizatch!! actually, i heard that they are going to show the texans and see how the ratings go.
If KEYE doesn't pick up the games (like the end of last year), Sunday Ticket shows them in this region (Austin).
it won't be blacked out on directv either at a bar or home. We are outside the radius for blackouts of all teams.
I got exactly the same form letter. I replied back once more saying that they need to quit calling themselves "Austin's home for the Texans," among a few other choice words.
I really want to watch both the Titans and Texans....does the NFL league pass work like the NBA broadband where you can watch the games on the computer? DD
FYI...Austin's Home for the Texans will be showing the cowboys preseason game on Thursday. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme since the starters probably won't play much, if at all. Just another knife in the back of Texans fans in Central Texas
I think they have something like that this year. I don't know if it's any extra. Do some research and let me know.
I just threw up on my keyboard. I wish I could have thrown up on your keyboard instead. The Cowboys are far and away a better team than the Texans this year (well, every year so far). They are a far more storied franchise. They were a better franchise than the Oilers, too. So, from a historical and football standpoint, props to the Cowboys. Now, let me speak as a fan. Screw the damn Cowboys. May they finish the season 0-16. May Romo break his leg in week one, only to return in week 11 and break his ribs. May Jerry Jones trade three offensive linemen for Randy Moss and sign Deion out of retirement for another run. And, what gives with the Cowboys building a brand new stadium, only to make it just as freaking ugly with that stupid hole-in-the-roof? (At least that's what I've heard is the plan--can that be true??? Holy crap!!!!) Texas Stadium should be renamed Dallas stadium as the rest of Texas wouldn't build something that stupid. I hope there's a corporate sponsor for the new stadium, something out of Dallas. OH--I've got it: Cuban stadium.
Wait - what exactly is wrong with KEYE's decision? Why shouldn't they show the game that substantially more people in Austin choose to watch?
this will make you feel better, at the Reebok outlet in Round rock, you can get Texans Jerseys for $15 or less. The Vince Jersey is still $75.
