Thanks to Fatty's thread on ACDC it rekindled my interest in old school rock. As of right now I have around 50 songs that i consider old rock. I was wondering if any of yall could point me in the direction of some better songs. As long as it has a good rthyhm or beat i will like it. I'll list the songs I have currently so there wont be unnecessary posts. ACDC: For those about to rock, evil walks, back in black, big balls, highway to hell, thunderstruck, TNT, you shook me all night long. seeing you lump Led Zeppelin with KISS made me sick to my stomach. please dont do that anymore. other than that, just buy these albums: led zeppelin - every album, except maybe coda rolling stones - beggars banquet, sticky fingers, exile on main street, get your ya ya's out, let it bleed pink floyd - dark side of the moon, animals, meddle, the wall, wish you were here grateful dead - american beauty, workingman's dead, grateful dead, hundred year hall creedence - chronicle, vol. 1 allman brothers band - eat a peach, live at the filmore east, allman brothers band, wipe the windows... the doors - the doors, strange days the faces - a wink... jimi hendrix - everything the band - the last waltz the beatles - white album, revolver, abbey road, stg. pepper, magical mystery tour eric clapton's work with: cream, blind faith, derek and the dominos that should be a decent start.
i see you have a bon jovi song on there, but it's a more recent one. their best stuff came out in the 80s. here are the essentials: you give love a bad name living on a prayer social disease wanted dead or alive bad medicine i'll be there for you
I really dont like Led Zepplin too much i probably like Kiss more. I just dont like mellow slow stuff, but the beginning of kashmir is pretty badass. I dont want to go too old school though, like the beatles and eric clapton that might be pushing it for a young blood like me. And try to give songs because i dont buy albums. Thanks.
Motorhead - Overkill Scorpions - The Zoo Black Sabbath - War Pigs Budgie - Breadfan Thin Lizzy - Jail Break AC/DC - It's A Long Way to the Top Ozzy Osbourne - Suicide Solution And hey, if you like REAL rock 'n roll-- Ratt - Round and Round Pantera - Cowboys From Hell Guns N Roses - It's So Easy Jackyl - She Loves My C*ck Stay the hell away from Aerosmith!
jeez do people even listen to the entire albums? its like they just download individual songs that are popular and thats it.
Old Rock? I am old. I played in 1968-1970 If you want old rock rent Woodstock and watch it, and buy everything 1969-72 Forget all the 80's stuff that's not old to me.
ok, see... i dont want to pick on you, but what in the hell does that mean? how old are you, and more importantly, why does it matter? hell, my little brother is 16 and loves zeppelin, the stones, clapton, etc. and if you think zeppelin is "mellow slow stuff," you're in desperate need of broadening your musical horizons. dont go ignoring fantastic music because you feel you're too young for it... that's just lame. but here are some songs: zeppelin: heartbreaker, dazed and confused, communication breakdown, whole lotta love, living loving maid, black dog, immigrant song, good times bad times, rock and roll, the ocean, house of the holy, how many more times black sabbath: war pigs, iron man, sweet leaf, paranoid, the wizard, fairies wear boots cream: sunshine of your love, crossroads, white room motorhead (good call hippie): ace of spades, fire fire, shoot you in the back guns and roses: all of appetite for destruction
See i like black sabbath and motorhead just zeppelin not so much. Ill try those songs though just cuz u took the time to type it out. I dont ignore music just im pretty sure i wouldnt like the beatles and some stuff from that time period. I do i just said i pick out the songs i like so i dont fill my ipod and computer with songs im not gonna listen to in the future.
No prob! I'd list some more, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of good suggestions in this thread. Classic rock sounds best with whiskey, don't forget that. Edit: And Zeppelin really DOES kill. Nobody can make you like it, though.
my point exactly... he just hears clips of the songs in movies/TV and downloads em. how any one can mention old rock and not list Chuck Berry - johnny B. Goode is beyond me. heres some - Hendrix: voodoo chile, crosstown traffic, freedom, voodoo child, night bird flying, castles made of sand, little wing, if 6 was 9, hey joe lynyrd skynyrd: Was i Right or Wrong, needle and the spoon, down south jukin, gimme back my bullets, mad hatter, that smell, whats your name, that smell, the ballad of curtis lowe deep purple: child in time, stormbringer, smoke on the water, space truckin, kentucky woman, black night, strange kind of woman, Burn tom petty: freefallin bad company: bad company kansas: carry on my wayward son quiet riot: metal health Queen: fat bottomed girls iron maiden: hallowed be thy name, children of the damned, genghis khan alice in chains: rooster all led zeppelin, all RATM, all skynyrd
Seems like you'd like Pearl Jame- Once, etc. Skid Row- Eighteen and Life Motley Crue- Dr. Feelgood Soundgarden- Spoonman, Blackhole Sun
Thanks for the iron maiden suggestions, im suprised i havent found these songs myself. Ill check some of the others later.

Old rock latley has somewhat "jumped the shark" for me. Its so embedded in our conscience its starting to come off as everybody's established faves instead of emotionally moving music of the times. Its like the favorite carnival ride you been on millions of times-its good and still gives you a bit of a jolt, but either you're too used to its predictability, want to try different rides for variety, or have grown passed it altogether. Suprisingly, even though you think you've heard all there is to hear, there's alway SOMETHING to come back to for "old rock" So there will always be respect for it. And the majority of the acts mentioned can STILL rock out!
