Found this picture on his blog. Now it's on his official site as well. My buddy (actually a bigger fan than me ) called the number and they said yes, he is coming back. Please don't let this be a stunt....
I read something about this a month or 2 ago. His TV thing didn't take off like he thought it would. I do fear that this will be a very politically charged show, more than before.
maybe he was on in houston? he wasn't on air in dallas, that i know of. he's big on the west coast. i've never actually heard his program though.
Phil Hendrie is hilarious. I hope we get his show here in Houston. Tom Leykis would be good too. If the same station snapped up both of them i'd lock it in and rip the knob off.
Sanders had an OPS of .711 and in 1997 had 56 stolen bases in 115 games played. "In four games of the 1992 World Series, Sanders batted .533 with 4 runs, 8 hits, 2 doubles, and 1 RBI." He scored a touchdown and hit a homerun in the same week. He sucked less at baseball than Hendrie did in acting. Hell, Deion sucked less in acting than Hendrie did. According to his imdb he came out in television classics, such as Walker, Texas Ranger, Moesha, Living Single, and Arli$$. He also performed "Must be the Money" on "The Grind," at the MTV Beach House, whilst wearing a fly suit. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DrYHujZgbo8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DrYHujZgbo8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Actually Phil does (or used to do) a parody of Leykis' show that was right on. Scary how good it was. Phil doesn't like Leykis. Calls him Comb-over Boy. For those that don't know, Phil does fake talk radio. He calls his own show on the phone using different characters to say outlandish things, then real people call up all pissed off thinking it's a real person and argue with them. That doesn't do the show any justice, it's REALLY hard to explain. If he comes back, you just gotta listen. That's all I can say...
I read that somewhere over the weekend as well. Kind of like getting back together with an ex-girlfriend who gives really good head, only to find out she's found Jesus and wants to wait for marraige. What's the point of him just being a boring talk host. I think it's safe to say there are more than enough of those. He would be the exact person he's been making fun of for the last 10 years.
LOL, great analogy! I am not surprised about the fact he won't be doing comedy anymore. His show became more about politics than comedy towards the end of his run. Not sure how this will turn out.
I hear he's coming back to 950am!!!! http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=442588 Phil Hendrie Show Makes Triumphant Return July 19, 2007 After taking a brief hiatus from radio to pursue television and movie projects, Phil Hendrie is back on track with the re-launching of Talk Radio Network-FM’s The Phil Hendrie Show. Since the launch just two weeks ago, over 40 markets have added Hendrie to their late evening lineup, including markets such as San Francisco, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa, Denver, Las Vegas, West Palm Beach and Charleston. The re-launch of the show has also allowed Hendrie to incorporate some new elements into the program, tackling issues and breaking news of the day while still using his humor and voice characterizations. "It’s not surprising so many stations welcomed the return of Phil Hendrie,” says TRN-FM CEO Mark Masters. "Phil is the master of satire and always delivers a pay off, which brings perspective on important issues of the day. He truly is a genius at his art form." Numerous PDs have commented on Hendrie's return, including KFMD/San Diego PD Dave Sniff who said, “Phil is simply a master at blending humor and issues. The night-time slot is perfect for the ‘theater of the mind’ style of communication he has made so famous. He is an original and extremely unique and when you put his talent against your average talk host, you win!” In Omaha, KKAR PD Neil Nelkin said, “Phil Hendrie was the perfect addition to the KKAR schedule. A live show during the late night hours: relevant, foreground and outspoken. Response for the first two weeks has been much more than I expected.” The Phil Hendrie Show airs Monday through Friday from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. EST, and is re-fed 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. EST on TRN-FM.
Still not sure what to think of all this. Is he doing voices or not? I'm hearing different things. If he's just going to do "serious" talk radio, no thanks. But if he's doing voices again, I'm all over it. Faos, have you heard the new format yet? Is there a way to stream the show right now without paying for that lame TRN (talk radio network) membership? I still haven't heard the new show. EDIT: 950 doesn't have him on their schedule.
http://www.philhendrienews.com/news.php Good news. From a fan site: The first week of the new Phil Hendrie Show has aired and on Fridays show some of the old regulars found the new show. The show started off with Bobbie Dooley calling in about the London bomb plot and before the show ended Pastor William Rennick called to discuss the Iraq war and Chris Norton was on as a guest to discuss the pole dancing workout. Needless to say, long time fans were thrilled to have these guys back on the air.
That's very encouraging, but I wonder if it means he didn't do any schtick Monday through Thursday. Not sure if I could take listening all week for an hour's worth of material...
