I've banged this drum once before, but I think Mr. Morris presents some decent professional arguments vis-a-vis the inherent viability, or at least inevitability, of a Hillary candidacy. This is from a guy who wrote Rewriting History, which was a rebutall to Ms. Clinton's memoir, so I think he can claim some impartiality. From the pages of thehill.com, a solid congressional webpage where Morris has a really nice bi-weekly column. http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/Comment/DickMorris/030106.html
I've become more liberal as I have gotten older and I pray that the Dems win our next presidential election but it would be almost impossible for me to vote for Hillary. The Dems are going to have to do MUCH better than her and I think they know it.
I don't necessarily want the Dems in 08; depends on what happens in Congress this year. But if Hillary is their nominee, they can count me out for a lot of reasons. If the Republicans get chastened enough this fall, their nominee renounces enough of what Bush has done AND Hillary is the Dem candidate, I'll probably vote GOP. If a Bush clone who is owned by the same GOP fatcats is nominated, I won't vote for either candidate. As I've gotten older, it's harder for me to vote for the "lesser of two evils".
"yeah, i banged that drum once too" _____________________________________________________ i dont want any more clintons or bushes. by the time 08 rolls around we will have had them in office for 28 years! is this really all there is? are there no other candidates? im not against a woman being elected, but i believe that hillary would make a HORRIBLE president - not as bad as the cheney administration, but really who is?
The anti-war crowd is not real happy with Hill' right now. It could really cost her in the primaries. Remember, in the primaries you have to start further from center than you will end up in the Gen. Election. I don't think Hillary can get the true liberals to support her in the primaries.
i think the dems need to roll out the candidate with the biggest, hairiest balls. that may very well be hillary.
my vote is totally up for grabs in 2008. i'm begging you dems...please don't nominate Hillary. i would be hard-pressed to vote for her.
I think Al Gore is contemplating a run at the '08 presidency. He's the only guy that I see with a decent chance at beating the GOP.
ditto. My beef with hilary is that she is the type to impose her values on others. That is an automatic turnoff for me.
My problems with Hillary- She is a consumate politician (just like Bill) who is too willing to sell out her values. The is no way in hell she will ever win a presidential election.
So? Which is it? She wants to impose her values or sell out her values? Hence the problem with the democratic party. Rarely, if ever, can they speak with a unified voice. Something that needs to be worked on. And I don't think Hillary is the answer. IMHO
the time is ripe for a female president, and i would certainly vote for one, all other things being equal. But like many others, i can't see myself voting for hillary. depending on the republican nominee- i would vote for Rudy, Condi, McCain over virtually any potential democrat- i might go third party again, like '80 and '84. Besides Hillary and Condi, what other potential female candidates are there?
"These are my principles and if you don't like them...well, I have others." Groucho Marx I agree with jo mamma: no more Bushes & Clintons, and I'll add Gores & Kerries to the list. Romney, McCain & Rudy would make a very, very innurestin' GOP primary. One can dream.
Didn't want to derail the thread so I'll just post the link. Krugman has an interesting take on McCain today in the Times. The Right's Man By Paul Krugman It's time for some straight talk about John McCain. He isn't a moderate. He's much less of a maverick than you'd think. And he isn't the straight talker he claims to be. http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/031406Z.shtml
We are Americans, and we absolutely loathe strong female characters like Mrs. Clinton. Pretty much summed it up...
Most people know who Hillary Clinton is. Most people do not know who Bill Frist is. Is there any doubt that the current President benefitted from his last name?
